Kitty may have lymphoma...

Hey all,

Does anybody have any experience in treating cancer in cats with raw food? Can you refer me to any links I can read up on it?

I'm talking about meat, not veggies, just fyi. I am taking him in for final diagnosis tomorrow, but pretty sure he has got cancer. Poor guy. His back legs are getting really weak. What a bummer. He's such a beautiful bengal cat.

Sorry to hear that. I don't know about raw diets with cats and cancer, but you have my sympathy.

I too don't have info but wanted to offer support. my cat has vaccine irritation that vet thinks could turn to cancer so I empathize. curious: what do weak back legs have to do with cancer? my cat's back legs have always cracked and been a little sore.

Thanks, guys, for your support! Just trying to find out information.

I guess feline lymphoma is really common in cats, says my vet, and today I took Ziggy in for more definitive tests, blood work and xrays. I'm thinking I will get a diagnosis from a regular vet and then take him into a holistic vet for treatment if it is cancer.

But to answer your question, weak back legs are a symptom of lymphoma. I think it is a spinal lymphoma, but I don't know that much about it yet. Weak back legs can also be a sign of diabetes, kidney problems, some bacterial infections, trauma, etc. But lymphoma is the most common so that's why I was asking.

Poor little thing! He just sat curled up in my lap the entire time I was at the vet's in a little ball today, which is unusual for him. If anybody knows bengals, they are extremely active curious cats and for him to just sit on my lap was very unusual. We also have his daughter (my avatar!) who is a completely darling!

If anybody is considering a cat, bengals have the best personalities, talkative, very attached to you, so curious, playful, and very smart! They are house cats bred with an asian leopard.

Are you feeding your cat raw meat? If so, how is it going? How was the transition from regular food to raw? Do you get your food from butcher or order it? I'm pretty sure I will be doing that here very soon. I have four cats total, and a couple of them are pretty old, so I don't know how raw food is going to go over. They are really really set in their ways, you know?

Just an update....my kitty Ziggy probably has FIP. He is probably not going to make it. Although, after calling around to lots and lots of homeopathic vets, I finally found someone to treat him. He is a homeopathic vet with a Ph.D. in microbiology! I couldn't believe my luck in finding him. Ziggy is still alive, but barely. Poor guy. It's so hard to watch him. They are waiting for test to come back confirming FIP....so we will see what happens.

Just as an aside, cats who are NOT vaccinated do not get FIP! Since they have been vaccinated, their immune system is strengthened and works double time to kill corona virus and basically because their immune system is so strong, it kills the cat. (It's complicated to explain....way above my head!)

I think this is very telling about vaccinations!!

I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. I have 4 cats (they are my babies) 2 Ragdolls, 1 Persian and 1 Himmie that I adopted from local rescue who I kept seeing come back into rescue month after month due to improper placement (Himmie's have long hair and you have to be commited for maintance every day ).

I hear ya on the vacines. In the past I normally would just go along with what that vet said was needed until I read about the feline lukemia vacine being linked to cancer- since mine do not go outside I would no longer let our old vet adminster that one to them. When I objected she became very upset about it so I moved them to a different vet. That same old vet forced yearly distemper shots on my cats every year and now my 2 oldest cats have kidney disease that our new vet states could be linked to yearly distempter. My thoughts on that is the more vacines they give the more my bill added up to.


Now I ask questions and do much research before allowing the vets to inject anything.

Again I am sorry to hear about your kitty - I hate to see anyone or living thing suffer with ailments. My heart goes out to you.

omg...FIP.

I went through this last year with a little kitten. It was heartbreaking to watch her struggle so but lose. I nursed her almost round the clock. I hope your somehow beats the odds and all my empathy and blessings on you guys.

Your other cats should be fine,but make sure you clean and disinfect all your litter boxes. FIP can spread through the litterbox=(

Thanks for your sweet replies and caring thoughts. Ziggy actually passed away yesterday. We have been so sad all day. He was a darling bengal with a huge personality, and I'm going to miss him so much!
