Angry Not getting along with sprouted buckwheat!

Can anyone offer some tips on sprouting buckwheat successfully? I've learned some tips and tricks for sprouting that seem to be working fine for everything but that darn buckwheat. I still have a problem with it stinking after a day or two. I rinse and rinse, get all the floaters out and still, I get this stinky stuff!

My wheatberries did beautifully, but the buckwheat didn't. I notice that after soaking it, it produces a slimy, gelly subtance similar to what flax does, though not as thick or as much and upon rinsing it, I can't seem to get all of that "gelly" off. So, I can only assume that because it's still sitting in an excessive amount of moisture, it gets that spoilage (if that's what is happening).

So, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong and how I can correct this? Otherwise, I may just have to settle for soaking it overnight and using it (like I do with flax)

    Thanks

I've been having the same problem, I've got a great recipe for Buckwehat Porriage i want to try and haven't successfully sprouted any yet. From what i've been reading though, and anyone here please correct me if i'm wrong, yu are only meant to soak them and then sprout them for a day and then use them. SO i'm going to give that a go next and i'll let you know how they turn out.

Hmm I have some to sprout but they have the hull on them. Are the ones you have hull less?

Veganmama, mine didn't sprout in just one day...it took a couple of days to see sprouting.

Curtis, I'm not sure if mine are dehulled or not...I'll have to double check. But again, they do sprout, but by the time the sprouts come, they stink. That's my main problem and the fact that they hold that gelly stuff and it's hard to drain them of all of that and therefore, that's why I think they're getting all stinky because they're sitting in a little more water than they should even though I drain to the best of my ability.

It sounds like your not using the right kind of buckwheat?
Are you sure its RAW buckwheat? They are normally the easiest things to sprout!
You really just need to soak them overnight and then let them sit for a day. If you want to sprout them longer you can but you do need to rinse them a few times a day so they don’t mold. These are pretty easy though so it’s confusing as to why they would smell and not sprout. Are you expecting a big spout? Because you will only have a little white tip.

    Alissa,
I think it's the right kind. I don't try to wait for a big sprout or anything like that...what I'll do is take a pic of the kind I use and post it so you can tell me if it's the right kind or not.

    Thanks!

Ok sounds weird but maybe you’re rinsing them too much to get the 'slime' off? If you re it could be overdoing it. I don’t know what else could be happening except for keeping them sprouting for too long.
