Dehydrator, Sea Salt/Allergy Questions
Hello-couple of questions for anyone that might be inclined to give me some answers!!
1) Do most health food stores carry Celtic Sea Salt-and is that where most of you purchase it-or online?
2) Should I save up for the $199 Excalibur dehydrator or would a cheaper model do for now-until I see how much I will truly use it. I don't want to spend $50 now and not have it be worth my while if I should just wait to buy the more expensive one.
3) I have so called allergies (more like sensitivies) to certain foods-bananas and chocolate (carob) are two that would affect the raw foods diet. I love the two of them, but they currently don't make me feel well when I eat them. Does anyone know of anyone that has lost such allergies/sensitivities after adopting raw at 100%?
Thanks so much!

YES!
I have lost many allergies after adopting a raw lifestyle. I used to have sinus problems all of the time and they are gone. I no longer get massive headaches. I have had hayfever/allergies/ skin problems for many years and all that is gone. I am just clearing up a small acne problem right now and I see it healing more and more everyday!

Hey Rawjojo,
I have a friend who has massive headaches, how far along into eating raw did these clear up? And any ideas on what causes them, has far as cooked food, eating meat, dairy etc.? Thanks!

Yes, most whole food stores (not necessarily your GNC-type of health store, but the ones that sell food items, etc.) will carry it. I get mine from our local natural foods store.

Well, it depends. I would have just gotten the Excalibur and been done with it but it was taking too long to be able to fit it into our budget, so in order to get a jump start on my raw life, I went and got to American Harvest Snackmaster model from Walmart for under $50 and it's been working great for me thus far. I do plan to get an Excalibur later because I want that extra space, trays and ability to remove trays to have room height-wise for like if I want to put a pan or dish in there. But otherwise, this round model that I have (fan/motor is in the lid, not on the bottom) is just fine and it has a temp control from 95 degrees and up!

My youngest daughter was "allergic" to anything citrus and nuts prior to cleaning up her diet. Now, she can eat oranges and (if she liked them) nuts with no problem.

Well, Curtis, I personally believe dairy is the main enemy with my allergies and skin problems so I actually gave that up about a year ago and saw almost immediate results. However, the headaches (I beleive)were caused from Caffiene withdrawl (I had also given up smoking too, which probably didn't help much either)> I just decided one day to get all of the junk out of my body and get healthy so I wouldn't have any more illnesses or symptoms. They headaches were massive and horrible. I even broke down one day and took an asprin because the pain was so bad and nothing else worked.(which by the way isn't the right thing to do of course, but I was desperate). Ususally, if your headaces are from caffeine withdrawl they should subside after 36 hours and by then the caff. should be mostly out of your system. You still need to fight the mental addiction but it isn't actually flowing through your veins anymore. The only other time that I have had bad pains are during colon cleanses when I don't eliminate toxins quickly enough (which can easily be cured by a colonic or enema). Usually, once you get the mucoid plaque moving out of your system, all or most of the symptoms go away. I figure it will take me a while to get my system mostly cleaned out seeing that I abused it with bad crap for so long but as long as I maintain raw and some juice fasting and colon cleanses I feel I will speed up the process and someday acheive optimal health. If I have to bear a few symptoms along the way it's just my bodies way of telling me that it needs to release a few toxins or take a rest. AND compared to the aches and pains and illness that I usually suffered while consuming the S.A.D............these symptoms are "a piece of cake" (raw cake that is!)! Hope this helps you and your friend. Just remember that "all bad things soon will pass"!
Talk to you soon!

Hey Rawkinlocs,
I have recently purchased the dehydrator that you have. Do you feel thar it doesn't have enough room in it? Are there any other cons before I go ahead and open it.

Hey rawjojo,
I think it's plenty of room for making basic stuff...most stuff actually. But I know that becoming a gourmet raw chef or just simply making food for other people is in the cards for me and so, I know that eventually I'll need something bigger. The amount of trays actually isn't much of an issue as more trays can be purchased and added to the dehydrator. But if I wanted to create a recipe that called for being in a pie plate or a cake pan and then dehydrated, I'd need the capacity to remove a few trays and have that height...kinda like an oven I guess.
But it's a great little dehydrator that I've made everything from crackers to cookies to pizza in and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Now, perhaps teflex would be a little nicer than the fruit roll trays that work with this model, but a little olive oil on the tray usually does the trick to prevent excessive sticking.
So, go ahead and get to using it! It's great to have and does the trick as far as I'm concerned. :)
