    Question Questions

Just been reading about raw foods today. I became Vegan on July 20th after my 20 year old son found the Peta site and we both went Vegan and people think that is weird, but now I have been reading about raw foods, not eating sugar ect... I guess I need to read a book on this as I do eat beans, lentils, oatmeal, wheat bread and brown rice. Can anyone give me a sample of what you eat in a day? I will be doing more research on this as this is all new to me.

    Hey Greeneyes, welcome!

    I highly recommend Alissa's book!

But a typical (all raw) day for me would go something like this:

A.M. - A smoothie with banana, apples (or pears) kale and/or spinach added and maybe some berries and dates

Fruit of some kinds (usually bananas or grapes)

Grawnola (granola I make in the dehydrator)

Afternoon. - Fruit, maybe more grawnola or any other raw treat made in the dehydrator (this is like our "oven" and foods prepared lower than 110 degrees still have the enzymes and nutrients preserved)

Evening - Maybe a salad and/or some pizza (raw style) or mock salmon pate' in lettuce rolls or maybe just fruit or a smoothie

If you haven't already, visit Alissa's website http://alissacohen.com to read up a bit more on this way of life and there are plenty more websites but you can get confused as there are many differing views and opinions within this same realm.

Thank-you, Rawkinlocs. I happen to have two dehydrators that we never use. My DH had them to make jerky, I won't say what kind of jerky as I only have one son that is vegan. The rest eat everything and they all have health problems {high blood pressure, ect...} and they don't see the connection to the foods they eat.

Wow, TWO dehydrators...then you are all set to begin explore the wonderful world of eating raw!! Yeah, I can totally relate to family members eating whatever and being sick. You're doing good by doing this researching and learning more about food and it's connection with health (or the lack of).

    Green Eyes

Welcome! I too recommed Alissa Book - also, there is a website www.fromsadtoraw.com with great recipes and pictures and she gives kudos to everyone else with her links. I am a foodist so,

breakfast for me - can be a smoothies, carrot juice or soaked raw oatmeal with a fruit puree in it . The fruit puree will be the fruit that I have allowed to get soft, a little agave nectar (a catcus), vanilla and whipped in food processor or blended which ever one you have, and sometimes it is just fruit until I am full

Lunch - Alissa has a recipe for almost tuna that I love - sometimes with raw crackers, or wrapped in nori sheet or even stuffed in a bell pepper, marinated veggies, with lettuce, again a big bowl of fruit. guacamole is anothe of my favorites with sliced tomatoes

Dinner - repeat of lunch or even breakfast sometimes, I do raw spaghetti made from squash or an english cucumber, a marina sauce and I am good to go. - tonight in fact, it will be a smoothie - cause I have a taste for something sweet.

Snacks and deserts are the same to me- date nut torte, Alissa's crepes, made with fruit leather - you have the dehydrator and a sweet nut cheese and fruit puree poured over it - that has been breakfast as well.

I make lemonade with ginger, juice and the like.

Now, I have to talk to myself as to why I have been backsliding, I actually like what I eat - I have been 100% before, but not in the past week. I began this week the right way and I see results - lower bp and lower bs.

    Hope this helps

I'm still transitioning to raw, but I have 100% days here and there. Today is one, for example! This is what my menu is:

breakfast: smoothie of banana, orange and frozen mango (sometimes I put almond milk instead of an orange)

    midmorning snack: persimmon

lunch: zucchini pasta with marinara and pine nuts, gigantic asian pear

afternoon snack: raspberry bars (sprouted wheatberries ground with dates and raspberries, then dehydrated)

dinner: likely the rest of the pasta and a mixed veggie salad with dressing of apple cider vinegar, olive oil and fresh herbs

I'm still working on increasing my veggies, but otherwise my diet feels pretty balanced!

    Curtis,

I used to freeze my bananas too, but it made it too cold to drink! Don't know if you mix nuts with fruit, but if you do definitely try the banana/frozen mango/almond milk combo. It is so creamy! Oh, the other mix to try is banana, almond milk and a hachiya persimmon (the pointer one you eat soft). It's like ambrosia, with persimmons being in season!

Breakfast is always fruit for me. In the summer, I eat organic watermelon every morning and now that watermelon is out of season, I think I'll switch to mangos. Breakfast is usually a mono-meal for me (consisting of only one food).

Lunch: Usually a big salad full of other veggies, homegrown sprouts and a homemade dressing.

    Snacks: Fruit.

Throughout the day, I often drink sesame milk, rejuvelac and wheatgrass juice. I try to drink lots of water, as well. I also make green juice sometimes which consists of cucumber, zuchinni, celery, cabbage. I sometimes add a little ginger an carrot.

Dinner: Perhaps some homemade sauerkraut or kim chi and a raw soup or another big salad.

Every once in awhile I just have green juice for a meal, but lately my appetite has been big, so I just make it in between meals.

    I often have:
B-almond milk, frozen banana, carob (sometimes add shapeshift or maca or both)

L-pudding made from an avocado, strawberries and almond butter

    D-salads

snacks are fruits or veggies lying around. Sometimes I make a pina colada with young coconut water and meat, pineapple and coconut flavor whipped up with ice.....and of course a cute little paper umbrella on top!
