    Default Does anyone know . . .

If knives are usually allowed in college dorm rooms? I'm going off to college in the fall and I plan on staying 100% raw. I can't find anything about it on my college website. I'd appreciate having a small kitchen knife to cut fruits/veggies with in my dorm room. I don't want to get in major trouble for bringing a weapon on campus! I just want to be able to cut my fruits.

I can't imagine a paring knife being a problem - unless you wield it on your roomie!

I know . . . I know. But after Virginia tech colleges just seem so strict about everything. They have to be .

Just imagine me, an ethical vegan, barely 5'2" running around threatening people with my 2" paring knife. lol I sure could cause a lot of trouble, so watch out roomie!

Well, the college can confiscate my paring knife, but they'll never get my vitamix .

It might vary by campus, but I would imagine that basic kitchen utensils would be acceptable. Most schools assume that students will cook/eat in their dorm room---especially if they cannot afford a full meal package.

Call your dean of students office just to check.

If having knives in your dorm room isn't ok, just make sure that there is a dorm kitchen open for use. You could get a small tackle-box type thing, put a lock in it, and store all of your utensils in the dorm kitchen for your prep work down there. It'd be my guess, however, that they'd rather have knives in a dorm room than in a communal kitchen area!

I went to a university with 45000 students from 2000-2004, and there was never any sort of security for my personal items during the time I was in the dorm. I know that things like guns would likely not have been allowed, but there was certainly no one checking for it.

A paring knife? I don't think anyone would concern themselves with that for security reasons.

Heck, you can even put one of those in your check-in bag for flights, and we all know how funny everything is these days with traveling by air.

    I'm sure you'll be fine.
