    Default Wellness and raw food

    Hi Everyone,

I'd like to get your thoughts on this.

Raw foods can change your mental outlook. I was depressed for some time. After going raw my mental state changed dramatically. No more medicine, no more therapy. My friends and asssociates have seen quite a change. I think raw does more for you mentally than physically. I've been transformed. I lost 40lbs. and got my mental clarity back. I'm way cool now.
Somebody call OPRAH. Where's my agent.

Alissa.... you need to go on Oprah.

    Chime in.

    Peace M.B.

Default Alissa on Oprah - Yay!!

That's a great idea, mb. Why don't we all go to Oprah's website and request it? I know that's not always a "serious" show, but what better way to get the word out?

Of course, that's assuming that Alissa would want to do it?! What do you say, Alissa?

    Post Oprah, wellness

Forgot to add - I think you're right about the mental changes. It's much easier to be positive when your body isn't coping with a constant onslaught of toxins. Of course, getting rid of the toxins isn't always fun. I'm still learning what clean & healthy feels like. I guess 48 years of toxins takes a while to get rid of, but it'll never happen if you don't start, right?!!

Oh yeah, for me the mental aspect is one of the most important. It has really amazed me how people lose weight so easily, heal their psychical ailments and all of that, but the mental is huge for me.

When I first started raw about 15 years ago, I would go on it for a few months, and then fall off, or I would think, 'oh this is so extreme so maybe ill be raw all week and then on the weekends go out to eat with friends. Whatever scenario there was I played it out. I would be raw for a year at times and then go off. I really believed in the raw but because of social pressures, personal issues, etc. I would go back to eating cooked food but EVERY time I would eat cooked I would get not only my physical symptoms back if I were off raw for a short period of time, but right away, like the next day, I would get the mental symptoms back. I noticed I wasnÂ’t as happy, was feeling bla, just this overall sense of dullness in my life, I didnÂ’t have the same spark, and it was amazing!!!

I tried to prove myself wrong every time. I really didnÂ’t want to believe that I just couldnÂ’t eat cooked food and feel ok!
Everyone else was doing, why wasnÂ’t I able to just eat like a 'normal' person?
I thought maybe it was just in my head, maybe it was psychosomatic, but I continued to experiment and EVERY time it was the same. ThatÂ’s when I finally decided to stay raw. I thought, 'ok, maybe it is just me, but I must have a different make up then everyone else then and I just cant live my life feeling this slightly depressed, cloudy mind existence. Not after I had a taste of what a beautiful reality it is when you are feeling really healthy and happy and at peace in my mind and clear.

Oh and yes Sadie, I WANT TO DO IT! I will go, just tell me when!!!
And M.B – how bought I send you a book and DVD set and you throw it in David letterman’s front porch the next time you drive by???? ;)

Alissa---you MUST send a copy of the book and DVD to Oprah! It's a matter of time before she highlights raw---might as well be you! I think she'd be amazed at how good raw can be.

I agree on the whole mental thing. My gosh, I've never been able, in the past, to operate under the stress I currently have and not crumble. The key thing is how I'm able to handle stress and anxiety now without turning to food. I don't know quite how to articulate how powerful this shift is for me.

    Default just for fun

    Hi Everyone,

    Next on Oprah.......

I'd like to introduce Alissa Cohen and her friends from the rawfoodtalk site.

Smasty, Monkeyboy, Sadii, Veg, they all sound so interesting. They are the opening act on Snoop Dogs next rap tour......ah just kidding. They're from all walks of life and different places on the globe, but are all connected by raw foods and Ms. Cohen. Let's start with Alissa............

Alissa, talk to your agent. Wally Lamb had two of his books featured on Oprah's book club. He's all set now. He used to teach at a local high school in Norwich Connecticut.

    Peace,

    M.B.
