What we don't purchase at farmers' markets we get at "Ranch" or most any ethnic market. The Armenian market in Glendale sells avos at 69 cents each while the farmers' market gets over $1 each. Try Asian markets for great deals as well.

I find it interesting ...... when fruits and vegetables are the most delicious they are the very best price and when they're not the most flavorful they cost an arm and a leg. At least that's the way it is around here.

I planted an avocado tree but we are currently waited for it to produce fruit. In the meantime, my local market had organic avocados for 88 cents each! Yay

I only go to Walmart for avocados. Kroger has them $2 each now and when I go to Walmart they always say $1.39 but every time I check out no matter who is the cashier they ring up REALLY cheap, like less than $1. But 73 cents is very common at my Walmart Neighborhood Market.

They had them five for a dollar Friday here in OK. I've never seen them that low! Made a huge bowl of guac for dinner that night!

It has been a while, but the last time I was at the store the avocados were over $2.00 each! Now I get some every couple weeks from the CSA but don't know how much they are separately!. I am sure, however, that they are close to, if not more than, $2.00 each! Of course part of the cost is the air shipment up here.

I just ordered three more for the next couple weeks and they should be here in another couple days.

they are 88 cents which is great and i try to buy the hard ones.
And the largest ones i can find:)
I try to buy as many as i can at a time, it saves money.

I've been buying my giant avocados at Costco. 6 huge ones in a bag for $5. Also Fresh & Easy has the small ones, 5 in a bag for $3.24.
The Walmarts out here in Las Vegas always sell stringy avocados. I like to eat mine plain or with a bit of sea salt and cannot handle the stringy ones. The stringy ones also have black spots inside.
