    Default More Greenstar questions!

Hey all you juicers! Can someone who owns/ has used a greenstar juicer answer some of my questions?
    Thanks!!!!
    1. Do you have to clean the juicer while juicing, or can you juice, say, 1 gallon of celery juice without having to stop and clean out any parts of it?
    2. How long does it take you to make a quart of juice, including assembly and clean up?
    3. How long have you owned your juicer, how often do you use it, and has it ever broken?
    4. How noisy is it?
    5. Have you found any foods that it CAN'T juice?

You do NOT have to clean as you go - you can easily create quantities of juice without stopping. The only exception I have found is when juicing quantities of juicy fruit like peaches which I rarely do. You can get a bit of a log-jam there. Assembly/dissassembly is very easy once you've done it a couple times. The parts are a bit heavy and awkward compared to cheap juicers, though. You can dishwash (top rack) the parts but you still need to brush out the pulp fiber screen, etc very well first. The parts take on green/orange stains but these are easily removed (if you care) in a bucket of dilute bleach, which I have done once. I've had mine for 7 years now. As far as noise, I grew up with the Norwalk juicer running daily most of the time since my mom did Gerson. The Norwalk is loud, and somewhat depressing (to me, maybe because my mom was so sick then, but hey, she's cancer-free now for 20+ years) and I was pleasantly surprised the Greenstar is nowhere near as loud. It does squeak though after the first minute, as in a high-pitched, "wee..wee...wee"

Times depend on how much prep you need to do. If you have dirty greens, most of your time is spend in the sink with that. You have to narrow big carrots, too. Once everything's ready, juicing is just a few minutes. You can take it apart in a minute, then maybe 5 minutes scrubbing/cleaning. I always reassemble it loosely right after juicing leaving the top open so it can finish drying yet be almost ready for the next juicing.

Wow! Sounds great. I would really really like a greenstar, but I might be getting an Omega soon by trading my vitamix for it.

    Default Juicer vs Juicer

    In answer to your questions

In theory you should be able to juice this amount of celery in one go with all the juicers I have used. But I would never see a need to juice this amount unless you have large family or for commercial reasons as fresh is always best. Occasionally my GreenStar gets backlogged when juicing soft fruit like apples. The time taken depends on the fruit or vegetable used when juicing, a carrot or celery is quicker to juice than wheatgrass or an apple. Also the preparation and cleaning is different from vegetable to vegetable but it would never be any more than 10minutes from start to finish. Also some juicers are quicker to clean than others; I'm also not sure what volume a quart of juice is.

I have owned the GreenStar 6 years, Samson GB-9001 & also a Samson KPE 1304 about 1 year. The Greenstar is certainly the most robust however I have replaced it on my worktop with the Samson GB-9001 which I think is the most fun and easiest to use and clean. The only thing I have ever broken is the glass jug from the Greenstar juicer and I would juice at least once a day and sometimes up to four times a day. They are all similar with the odd squeak but would not drown out a conversation within a kitchen. I found that if you juice Strawberry’s the seeds on the skin quickly block the sieve.

I think the Greenstar is certainly the most robust juicer I have used but if I knew now what I knew when I bought it I would have went with the Samson GB-9001. Some of the issues are as follows. To stay with a program of juicing you need to be conscious at all time’s of juicing and I think the best way for this is to have the juicer set up on your worktop and ready to juice. If you don’t have a lot of space this leads to problems especially with the Greenstar because of it’s size and weight. I didn’t have room in my old kitchen to keep this juicer on the countertop and the presses weren’t big enough so I ended up with the juicer stored in two places and needing to take it out and assemble it every time I wanted to juice, I now juice a lot more when the juicer is visible and ready to go. The chute on the Greenstar is a good size and it will take large pieces of vegetables or fruit but it still juices at the same rate even though I need to chop up the vegetables more for the Samson. The other main issues I have are the comparison between cleaning it and the Samson, I can clean the Samson in a minute or two but the Greenstar takes a lot longer.

I live in Europe and the cost to me of these items is mad with the Greenstar coming in at a whopping 630 euros ( currently 971 USD although euro/dollar was different then )compared to 290 euros for the Samson so for someone starting off I think the Samson is much better value.

I have a greenstar that I used only a few times. Wanna trade for the vitamix? My family will drink green smoothies but not juice so I am stuck with a greenstar that I don't use. Email me if you want to trade. Wow this is fun.

I have been using my Greenstar for almost 3 yrs now and it is a workhorse!! I have done some juice feasting which is making a gallon a day and the greenstar can juice a lot of stuff without stopping to clean it. Cleanup is really less than 5 minutes for me, and I have timed it because everyone always says it is a pain to clean. Its really not a pain at all. However, I do use my vitamix and nut milk bag to make juice when I need it really fast or Im pushed for time, which is pretty often. It works great!! I use the vitamix more than any other piece of equipment. One other thing about the greenstar...I dont like citrus juice make thru it. It always picks up a bitter taste from the skins even though I peel them. I have a breville citrus juicer for my citrus. It is a FANTASTIC citrus juicer.
