anything raw in anchorage? im going to be there for the weekend this next weekend; i thought someone had mentioned it at one point but couldnt find anything conclusive online; there is a place called enzyme express listed on the internet but then the guy who runs organic oasis says something about him starting his restaurant when enzyme express closed...so is there or is there not a raw foods place in anchorage???
    thanks much

I've been to Alaska, but not Anchorage. Fresh raw stuff is pretty limited, unless you eat raw fish, so if I were you I would pack nuts, dried fruit, lara bars, dehydrated goodies, and maybe some freshly made juice to get you through the weekend. Or you could consider fasting through the weekend, if you do well fasting and you won't be doing anything too strenuous.

Hi Kaybee. I maintain the Raw Food Restaurant Guide, and I can confirm that Enzyme Express has closed. They went out of business several years ago (about 3 years ago, if I remember correctly). Unfortunately, there are a lot of raw food restaurant listings online that are very outdated. It's *work* keeping listings updated, and a lot of people give-up on the task.

Happy Cow has a listing of vegan and vegetarian spots. Looks like Organic Oasis has some vegan/veggie dishes, but it's not 100% veggie. Here is the Happy Cow link: http://happycow.net/north_america/us...age/index.html

I used to live in Fairbanks Alaska, but we traveled to Anchorage a few times a year and always enjoyed shopping at the Natural Pantry. They will probably have a few raw food items (most larger health food stores do nowadays), or at the very least you can pick up some fresh organic produce and I do know that they have a nice salad bar, as well as a good selection of raw nuts and vegetarian foods. Good luck and have fun in Anchorage! I miss Alaska...it's amazing

Snow City Cafe in Anchorage has lots of fresh fruit and salads. It is a funky, artsy cafe open only for breakfast and lunch. Vegan friendly. They are very willing to accomodate special diets so if there is a salad that you need 'modified' I am sure they will. It is very busy and has a very diverse menu.

Blueberries are the best in Alaska since they are native. We hiked in Prince William sound and picked wild blueberries and salmon berries (which look like large orange rasberries)....yummy!
