    Default Do you give supplements?

I got Dr. Pitcairn's book and I want to make raw dog and cat food but all the recipes have supplements of one kind or another. Can you feed your animals without and they will still thrive? What do you feed yours?

    Marci,
Read the thread below, Good for you NOT for dogs, in there I explain what I feed my dogs and why. Also what you should not give them.

I give a joint supplement and fish oil for dry skin in the winter, but I don't do a multi. If you give enough variety in both meat and organs, then you shouldn't need a multi.

    Default barley powder

    Hope to get the link.

We feed our picky almost 9 year old dog, 8 years raw too, raw meat. She hates fruits/veggies so she lives on tuna, game meat or some form of chicken. She's not much into chewing bones--never was a fan.

We do give her barley powder when we remember several times a week. We mix in her tuna. About teaspoon for 45 pounder here. She's super healthy. Love that akida/chow...she is gentle, sweet, loving and doesn't stink with pretty teeth.

I am speaking as a cat owner, not sure about dogs. But unless you want to feed your cat both muscle meat and organs, you will need to supplement their raw meat diet. Pureeing raw liver, heart and gizzards are not something I want to do, so I add a quick supplement and my cat's diet is complete. You can buy them pre-made or make your own. I'm lazy so I buy the pre-made one. :)
