    Default Starting veggie seeds indoors

My house is really cold. I did use a grow light last year, but this year I need to figure out a better way of starting my tomatoes, cukes and such quickly indoors. I was thinking of buying fluorescent lights and hanging them. Our sunroom is getting super cold at night with no heat access. The light is the issue and being cold is the other one.

Would love your suggestions. I do have EB but it's really cold and I don't think the seeds would take outdoors. I always ending up buying plants, but I also started last year tons from seed with Eko Potting Mix soil only.

    Thanks.

How very strange. I could have sworn I responded to this but it isn't showing.

Did you start the seedlings in the Earthboxes themselves? If so, I don't know what to tell you to increase the heat, except perhaps for a space heater. If you put them in little seedling pots/trays, you can get warming units to set underneath.

I wouldn't bother with the fluorescent lighting. That is not the kind of light plants need. The best source of that is a Grow Light. You can get the tube type with fixture but they are expensive. You can however get cheaper bulbs that resemble incandescent or flood type lights and can be used in regular fixtures. You can put up a hanging lamp or two or even use a floor lamp for them.

    Hi Julie,
What kind of bulbs are you referring to and where would I buy them.

No I didn't start any seeds in EB ever. My bell peppers did the best and also It. Sweet Peppers also did great to the max.

I also let them climb on these tomato, like ladders, heavy plastic...forgot name and buy it as Home Depot for about $5.99. They are green and have I think 9 small little bars that you attach separately to manage the climbing action. Works great in garden too.

I am for Heirloom tomatoes and various kinds.

Just do a search for Grow Lights on froogle and you will see several different kinds.
