350 HP Blender/ Eat avocado seeds?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site, love it! I just discovered the website of Blind guru aka Rawfood guru, i think. He says you need a 3.5Horsepower or more blender in order to break down the cell walls of the food to make it really digestible. I have an old 3600 Vitamix, which i've started using again, it works pretty good for green soups, etc., but my guess is that it's 2 HP or less.
Blindguru seems kinda opinionated, so i'm turning to you all.
Anyone know if it would be worth it to pay the price (they are $350-$600) for one of these 3+horsepower for better absorption? Any studies done on the difference comparitively? It's nice to have some chunks, sometimes...plus it encourages me to chew!
Also, i'm concerned about the louder noise, i guess a higher HP blender would have...any thoughts about that?
blindguru has a demo video on Youtube showing someone grinding an avocado pit in, i guess, a Waring Xtreme blender (it's 3.5 HP or more i guess, 45,000rpms). Then eating the smoothie made with the ground pit and other stuff.
Blindguru's site says that you have to have more than 3 HP blender to grind the avocado pit, and that the pit has tons of antioxidants, but i wonder what else it may have in there, like cyanide... and how much?!
I can't find anything on the web about long-term affects, or how it makes you feel, of eating avocado pit, does anyone know?

I've never heard of it or of him...mmmm?
Personally, I will pass on the pit....

Interesting. I like the part about juicing. Dr. Walker would certainly refute his claims. Pit? I'll pass.

I was told that you should not even put the avo pit in the composter so I figure if the composter can not handle it then what chance does my tummy have.
There are plenty more readily available anti oxidents in my other foods so it does not seam natural to me to have to use a 3hp motor to get at my food. That was food I was not meant to have.
There is sufficient in the world for man's need, but not for his greed.

Hi Meg. Welcome. I just found Blind Guru's site too. There's so much info there that I haven't read everything yet. I'd certainly like to find out more, he has some very interesting theories.
I'd like to explore his ideas on more powerful blenders and am considering upgrading. What he says makes sense to me. If the motor is more powerful, the food will be broken down more quickly and not reach as high a temperature. Right now, some of my soups, drinks and dips are pretty hot when they come out of the VitaMix. I've also noticed how much air gets mixed in.
I doubt that the avocado pits have cyanide, but apple seeds do and should never be blended or juiced.
I may order some Blind Guru products and I intend to try out some of the recommendations on this site.

If we're meant to eat the food in its natural state, then I imagine our bodies can handle the processing without the help of a strong motor.
Though avocado pits are toxic to animals, it seems that the level of toxins are not high enough to harm humans. It also seems that there is no nutritional (or gatronomical) reason to eat one. Blech.

Blind leading the ??
I just found Blind Guru's site. It's quite alarmist and made me chuckle a lot. Don't eat bananas! Don't eat cashews!! Don't get out of bed in the morning!!

Not to me. That's what teeth are for and if my teeth can't break down the fibers of something then it's not going in the blender.

Interesting. I'm not having that issue. I do have the stronger K-Tec and only use it during travel as my V-M does everything I need. Wondering why yours gets hot.

Mmm, I think an old trampoline might not give enough support although I've not really looked into them much because I don't think our landlord people would like us doing what it would take to build the support for it; plus, not really great about laying in a bed so many others have during an expo. Bleeech!
