    Default Thai Coconut

    Good Day,

Can someone tell me how to make noodles out of a young coconut. I want to make the Pad Thai recipe by Brigitte Mars. In the picture, she had them the same size as she cut the cabbage - and I just scoop it out. Is there a trick?

    Thanks

    Default great question

I was just having dinner at Au Lac's and they have a chow mein made with coconut noodles. Looked like they put it thru something to make it look so good and perfect so I had to ask. They simply hack the coconut open and cut strips and then scoop the meat off the shell. Will have to try.

    Laurita,

Thank you for your response and seeking answer for me- where is this restaurant? That is on my agenda to try next week.

    Thanks again

This summer I was traveling in Austin, TX, and I went into a little juice bar, and lo and behold, they had a young coconut-banana smoothie on the menu AND it was served in the coconut. They served it with a fat, stiff straw that had a pointy end on it. Not sure how well I'm explaining it, but I was able to use that straw to shave noodles off the inside of the coconut and clean out the whole shell! I've since since these clear, striped straws at our daughter's homeschool co-op, so I know they've got to be available out there somewhere!
