Default How do you safely grow sprouts?

I have been reading articles on the web about growing sprouts and am a little concerned about what seeds to get and how to do it safely. How do you know that what you are growing is not going to make you sick?

you wont get sick...what type of seeds do you want to sprout? you just soak them, then let them sprout, rinsing several times each day

This is just it, I don't know what I want to grow but I know that I probably need to do something. What is it that the sprouts will provide for me diet wise?

As you all can tell I really need help here to get this all going. Also where do you get your seeds from?
