our dogs are raw!

i've changed my dogs food... to raw. there is a local place making up raw dog food... from nice healthy choices, so i'm very pleased to say i tried them on it this week... they loved it! i've never seen annabella scarf down food like that LOL she's usually so picky and a slow eater. kayla is a pig and will eat anything though LOL

annabella scratches a lot so i'm hoping this will assist her! the young woman who was promoting the food was telling me about all the changes in dogs... clearing their skin - all the stuff WE all feel when we go raw... i laughed cause i soooooooooo know what she was saying!

so today i picked up 20 pounds... 10 pounds of the chicken mix and 10 of the beef... and we'll give it go.

here's to RAW!!!

i figure i'll keep some kibble (nutro) for them in a bowl... in case they are hungry between meals... but otherwise they are raw!

Mine will be 18 on June 22 and She would put me out and Bite me if I gave her RAW.......But I am So Happy its Working for you. But she will get her some Calendula when she fells under the Weather. I have it Growing in the Yard.

oh i don't know. if you had access to this food you'd be surprised. it smells amazzzing!

I have two rat terriers and they're both raw and love it! Of course, when I first got them they weren't raw so we had a "time of transition" but they've done great and now kibble is only used when we're traveling and it's not possible to do raw.

I use a brand called Primal that comes in large squares and then I add to that things like soaked and ground oat groats (in the winter) pumpkin, strawberries, apples, finely minced carrots - they go crazy over all of it. Of course, I'm sure they wouldn't turn their nose up at a grilled hamburger but they don't get that option.

Emma gets extra flax seed oil because of her itching and they both chomp on raw chicken wings really well. Actually, when I do raw chicken wings I hand feed them so they don't scarf and end up throwing it back up. I want to make sure they chew really well. They also get turkey necks that have been ground up - it's the perfect ration of meat to bone. And they love the raw dehydrated sweet potatoes I make for them. If you lightly steam them before you dehydrate them they come out nice and chewy.

thanks jack, they are LOVING their food. we ran out for the day today... and neither of them wanted to eat their kibble... but they went crazy over their green smoothies LOL

COngrats on giving your dogs delicious and healthy raw food. My cat has been raw for over a month and she has tons of energy and is doing very well. Did you find a vet that is ok with raw? I would like to have a vet that supports my feeding raw, but all the ones in my area push their own dry kibble - and a few won't even see my cat unless I agree to change her diet. What's with that??? Have you noticed that your dogs are more excited about their food now? My cat climbs the walls when she has to wait for me to prep her food!! :)

my dogs are CRAZY insane over their food now. although kayla has always loved eating, annabella is not a big eater... till we went raw! we are doing a 50/50 ratio.

our vet is very supportive and feels that a combo is best for our dogs. but he's a huge supporter of feeding 'wild' to animals. whatever they would eat in the wild is what you feed them... which is part of the reason i love him so much (the vet that is LOL)

our dogs are doing so great... the only drawback is their farts LOL

Now that's interesting. My dogs have no gas except when they eat kibble. My daughter was living with us for awhile recently along with her rat terrier Zoey and Zoey's gas could clear a room. My DH couldn't stand it any longer so I put Zoey on raw and within two days her gas went away.

Unfortunately, my daughter moved to Panama City, Florida and Zoey is back on kibble and her gas is back as well. Poor thing.

I think it's great that there are so many people interested in getting their pets healthy. I love it!

maybe it's the kibble/raw combo then, cause they never farted when they were on straight kibble. LOL

I put my cat on raw last summer... (Nature's Variety) and she's doing phenominal!! My older Golden Retriever is also on NV for her morning meal and then we switch to RMB's (chicken pieces or turkey necks) for the afternoon meal. She gets yogurt, Kelp & alfalfa powders, Nut. Yeast., an egg (2 x a week), canned sardines, and lots of Green Smoothies or the pulp from juicing. She also gets what's leftover at the butcher shop... which incl. green tripe, which is just terrific for them. I believe this has really been a benefit. She's also doing fantastic. My younger golden retriever will be switched to a raw diet once his basic obedience classes are over.

I just want to mention that you should really feed "either" raw or kibble, but not both. Kibble takes about 12 or more hours to digest... where raw only takes about 5 hours. To have both in the system really slows it down and can lead to problems (maybe leading to the gas?). Just FWIW.

but right now, cost wise... it's all i can do.

Annabella may be allergic to her food and reason for itching; however, adding some oils into her diet may help too. Salmon oil is hard to find here but they say great, I have given my dog olive oil, but she's in love as a bribe to tuna in oil only so she wins here. It's dry here but she doesn't seem to have problems now about 8 years raw. I adopted so she was on dry dog food and in a month she was all ran and remained that way for years. She's still like a puppy and super active with young looks. That's our akida.

i've transitioned them to a totally raw diet now. they get whatever i can find on sale or a good price on.

today i picked up a bunch of goat 'cubes' with bones in the cubes. (stewing meat)
5kg boxes of turkey wings (3 boxes) $5 each
5kg box of turkey legs $10 each
a bunch of chicken legs (for my little dog)
a bunch of chicken legs with thighs attached (for my two larger dogs)
beef bones - for hot days.

they love their green smoothies and will wolf down the tomato fibre from my juice!

haven't found any inexpensive pork yet... but i'm on the look out for some LOL

My dog continues to be very picky eater. Some days she will love her ground beef and other times she will look at it as if it is a foreign food. Her tuna seems to be of of season for her liking so she is on strike. She's not much for eating but surely loves chasing rabbits and hoping to stop one in its tracks letting it stay there for my husband to bury.

Enjoy the raw cat/dog experience. My dog never has gas.
