Default Bananas Turning Brown in Freezer

I bought a new refrigerator, and I've noticed now when I freeze bananas that they turn brown. To remedy this, I figured it would be beneficial to change the temp. control to a colder setting. After I did that the food I keep below will freeze in certain parts of the refrigerator. Has anyone else dealt with this? I don't really want to eat brown bananas, which is what I've been doing. I just don't see how I can remedy this.... any suggestions?

Oh, and on some refrigerators I know there are two diff. temp. controls for the freezer and the non frozen part but on this refrigerator that's not the case.

are you peeling them first? unpeeled bananas turn basically black in the freezer. if not, try that. peeled frozen bananas do usually get a little discolored when frozen but i believe they're fine to eat..

Freezing seems to effect bananas a lot. I have frozen bananas and then thawed them out and peeled them and they are totally mush after being frozen. Bananas really change a lot when frozen and it has always made me pause and go hmmmmmm wondering if freezing is changing my raw foods in ways that don't benefit the raw food eater. Does anyone know if freezing is making the raw food healthier to eat or not ?

I've had this problem when freezing bananas at my parents' house. I did it just like I normally do - peel, break in half, and freeze on a metal sheet pan or plate, then, once frozen, put in a plastic bag. Except at her house they turn brown. I concluded that was because she keeps it warmer - I scooped some ice cream for her and it was just barely frozen, straight out of the freezer. I don't know what to tell you about variations in the freezer though. Good luck!

Yes, I peel them first. With the other refrigerator the bananas never turned brown so that leads me to believe it's the setting of the temp. control.

did you possibly change brands of bags that they are frozen in? (if you are using freezer bags, you didin't mention), also if you are using a ziploc bag, make sure that it is for freezers and to make sure that they don't have a small leak somewhere causing air to get in and turn them brown. good luck, keep playing around with the temp too and see if anything happens. and eventhough brown bananas aren't the most appealing, you can still use them in smoothies.

I agree that it is the temp.
I have found that when the bananas were left in the door shelf of the freezer (hubby did that) they were very brown but when I put them in properly (where it is presumably colder) they are much better.
