Greenstar Juicer similar to Champion?
They look almost identical, do they work the same or is one better than the other?
I have posted a report here a long time ago but I can not locate it now.
I seem to remember that the nutrient content of the juice from the Green Star was the highest of all.
The report was not from Green Star but was from Hippocretes.
There is sufficient in the world for man's need, but not for his greed.
The Green Star is better ~ depending on your intent.
If you search on this forum, there's LOTS about the various juicers.
I've just got a Green Star monday and love it. I did lots of research and didn't even consider the Champion because:
-It doesn't do leafy greens or wheatgrass
-It's quite a high speed juicer (1700-1800 RPM I believe, the Green Star is 110 RPM, usually, the higher the speed, the more oxidation, the more nutrients are lost)
-On the Green Star, you can choose a fine or coarse screen for pulp or no pulp
-On the Green Star, there are 2 pressure adjustment knobs, one high pressure to strongly squeeze pulp of hard things like carrots, and one low pressure knob for things like oranges, each knob can be rotated to increase or decrease the pressure on the pulp, I think this is a great feature to optimize the juicer to what you're juicing at any particular time, and this is what allows it to juice from ultra soft things like oranges to ultra hard things like carrots.
-Green Star extracts significantly more juice out of the produce (33% more than the Omega 8005 I believe, and probably even more with the Champion)
-Green Star's juice has much higher nutrient content
-Green Star's juice can store for 3 days
I decided to post this here after reading your other Champion thread about ice cream.
I've made ice cream twice with my Green Star and it comes out GREAT, however, I already have a "real" ice cream maker which allows me to use much more than just frozen fruits. I may still use the Green Star for when I want a quick instant ice cream without the 10-20 minute freezing time. One advantage is I can make rainbow ice cream by alternating the fruits I put in the Green Star.
If you can afford the difference, I really would strongly recommend the Green Star over the champion, it's significantly higher juice extraction efficency can make it pay for itself fast as you know it's getting every last drop out of your food, unlike less efficient juicers which can waste a lot of money.
Hmmm - That is strange. I juice mostly leafy greens in my champion, mixed with cucumber and celery usually. Where did you hear that it doesn't juice greens? I drink green juice every day! (Not to say that the greenstar juicer isn't great though - it was just 3x the price of my champion, so I couldn't consider it at all )
It will juice leafy greens. It wont juice wheatgrass.. well, it will but you'll lose a lot in the process as you do with leafy greens because of the heat generated in the Champion. I've owned two and a Green Life, a Green Star and currently a Sampson.
With the C, you have to drink immediately, especially if juicing leafy greens. With the GS, you can keep it for a day.
I plan to buy a greenstar, I'm glad I saw this post.. Thanks for the information.
By the way, I found a small trickfor making ice cream with the green star. On my first attempt the first part of the ice cream that came out was molten. So now before making ice cream, I run 2 ice cubes through the green star to chill the metal twin gears, then you can put frozen fruit (discard the next ice bits that come out until it's ice cream) without it melting the fruit.
My green star works surprisingly well for ice cream, but I'll see if I keep using it for that. I do have an ice cream maker a food processor, but the ice cream out of the Green Star is like no other! And I can make rainbow ice cream!
I think I'll use both for ice cream, they each have their advantages and disadvantages.
i love my champion... but if you have the money greenstar is better... but that doesn't make the champion a bad choice :)
i juice greens with it. it does a decent job. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the centrifuge ones.
I have the Champion because of the cost issue and it works fine, but like others say I have heard that the Greenstar is preferable. One trick I've found to help lessen the heating effect is to either "juice" ice cubes along the way, or pour in very cold water. Then I notice that the pulp comes out cool instead of warm when I do this.
