    Default Perioral Dermatitis

My little 2-year-old granddaughter was just diagnosed with perioral dermatitis. She has red spots and rashes near her eyes. Does anyone have any experience with this? She's been on a few rounds of antibiotics, but it keeps coming back. Now they want to give her a stronger antibiotic for 6 weeks. They told my daughter that it will probably upset her stomach and cause diarrhea. I recommended that she try coconut oil or shea butter or something else natural. Her husband thinks they should give her the antibiotic. I can't believe that he calls natural remedies "snake oil"! and would rather give her toxic drugs!!! Help!!

Has she seen a dermatologist? I am familiar with that type of dermatitis so I looked it up and it does look like it is caused by bacteria. I found a link where a woman claims to have cleared hers using grapefruit seed extract.

I was diagnoised this a couple times. The last time was with my second pregnancy. I went to the dermatologist and they gave me antibiotics which cleared it up for about two weeks. The prescription was for 10 days I think. Then it came back, when I went back to the dermatologist they wanted to put me on a longer run of the antibiotic. I was 5 mo preg. I said no I will just let it runs its course. Eventually it went away. I had a very bad reaction to something and went to the health practioner that I took my twins to. It was recommended that I remove wheat (the major culprit), sugar (processed) and dairy from my diet and within 2-3 weeks it went away. If I eat too much of them it comes back. Only on other parts of my body like my legs, arms and back.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. My daughter has taken her little girl to three different pediatricians, an opthamalogist (because it's near her eyes) and two different dermatologists. She has been on at least three or four rounds of antibiotics, but it keeps coming back. Now they want to put her on some drug for 6 weeks and it will probably upset her stomach and cause diarrhea. (And God knows what other side effects.) My daughter is desperate to try and straighten this out without any more drugs. She does feed her quite healthy, although not a raw diet, by any means. She eats alot of fruits and vegetables and raw juices. I researched and researched; many have mentioned coconut oil, shea butter, vitamin E oil. I told my daughter about these, but they are afraid to use any of these because it's near her eyes. I told her I use coconut oil all over my face including smearing it over my eyes, and I haven't had any problem. I just wish they would try something natural and it would magically work - then maybe they wouldn't be so skeptical of the "raw life"! Thanks again for your replies.

    Default Eczema Numular

A raw food diet will eventually eliminate skin problems. A handful of Dead Sea Salt in the bath water, taken on a regular basis, helps various skin disorders. I was diagnosed as having "incurable" eczema numular. It used to be so bad (like a horrible weeping case of poison oak that never got better) until I changed my diet and started taking the salt baths. Authentic Dead Sea Salts actually rehydrate the skin rather than drying it out. I use one that has lavender essential oil added because lavender essential oil is healing. You never put any essential oil directly on the skin. It should only be used mixed with something or greatly diluted. I only use it as it comes in the Dead Sea Salt. After the bath sesame oil, coconut butter and or grapeseed oil can be applied. On the eczema itself I used a high quality licorice extract in vegetable glycerine.

I can empathize with your daughter and the frustration she is going through. Perioral dermatitis can be very stubborn! I speak from experience!!

Make sure she eliminates everything with Sodium Lauryl Sulfates in addition to the dietary stuff. SLS are a huge culprit in this type of skin condition. It is usually in toothpaste and shampoos/soaps. Tell your daughter to use products without any Sodium lauryl sulfate and see if it helps.

I wish you the best! Poor little girl!

    Default Perioral Dermititis

My daughter is 2yr 8mths and has been treated for all kinds of irritations including infected eczema, impetigo, you name it.. with all kinds of creams.. steroid based and all.. i read today all over the internet that it is probably Perioral Dermititis.. I also read that Sodium Laurel Sulphate is responsible for outbreaks.. this sounds quite typical as I am allergic to it.. and get ulcers.. My 5 year old also started getting them and my 7 year old had the rash on face.

Looks like one of the creams may have triggered outbreak.. Is there any way of eating differently that can help naturally treat this without anti-biotics? I can do the toothpaste change..

and is it likely that juice and eating any food will provoke the rash to get worse? she appears worse after most meals.. but is it something in particular or co-incidence?

    Thanks:)
