    Default Oxidized Green Smoothies

I am trying to drink a quart of green smoothie per day, but if I can't finish my smoothie in 2 hours then it starts to turn brown and taste icky. Anyone know why? What can I do to prevent this? I prefer to drink my smoothies slowly.

Are you keeping it in the fridge for those 2 hours or is it sitting out? I know in an interview that Victoria Boutenko did, she mentioned that due to the fiber being in the smoothie (as opposed to juice) that it will last 2-3 days in the fridge. I've made large amounts of smoothie and kept it in the fridge for a couple of days and it was fine once I simply shook it up in the jar. The fruit is probably what's causing it to turn brown especially if you're using bananas...but it should still be good. But if you have to have it away from the fridge (such as at work, etc. and no fridge is available) then you may want to look into some kind of thermos or something that will keep cold things cold and warm things warm. Maybe one of those insulated bags or something with the ice pack thingy.

Stir in a lemon's worth of juice?
That always keeps my produce fresh for the day.
I assume it would also work with smoothies.

I pour mine into glass quart jars and fill them to the top to reduce oxidation....

I've been keeping them in my plastic nalgene and bringing and leaving them out in the open as I sip on them over a period of three hours. I'll try the lemon juice for now, until I order the "lock and lock" bottle or another insulated thermos type thing.
    Thanks everyone!

I make green smoothies every day and have been for almost three years. I have tried all types of storage conatiners and the dark Nalgene bottles work the best for me.

The one item that I DO NOT INCLUDE in blended drinks that are to last overnight is BANANA. I have found that banana radically changes flavour the longer it sits. If I am going to drink it that day it's OK but not overnight.

I have also found that savory green smoothies (green soups) last longer as they have no fruit. Several days up to a week!

    Cheers,

Wow! Thank you! It must have been all the bananas that I added, as I kept it in a dark nalgene. I'll give it one more try w/o the bananas before I give up on the quart size smoothies and just stick to an amount I can eat in one sitting.
