anyone over 70?
I was writing about my parents in my blog and it dawned on me that maybe I could get some tips right here. I have been raw for a couple of years+ now but cannot convince dear old mom and dad to try things....Are any of you in your 70's and if so do you have any pointers/suggestions for me to try to get my parents to incorporate more raw foods in their lives? They are not really INTERESTED in it, but I am and maybe I can nudge them a little...Thanks

Does 66 count?
Isee that no one has replied to your post, so I will offer myself as "amost in my 70s. I've been RAW for a year, and think it's the greatest thing ever!
I wonder, however, about trying to sway folks who are probably pretty set in their ways who aren't interested. I was just ready, I guess, having always been intersteed in eating well, and really fed up with my "menopausal" weight. Good luck!;)

Thank you, advice well taken. Neither of my folks is "ready" so I guess I will continue to "lead by example" ;)

I have something to share here. I just learned about eating Raw 3 1/2 months ago, so I never really paid attention to my mother in laws eating habits. We go for a visit once a year and I did notice though that her looks were changing.......lost all of her excess weight and her skin looked so smooth, standing so erect for 82, moving around like a much much much younger person. But I also noticed that her German (she is from Germany) aggressivness was gone........mellowed right out. She would make comments about how her Dr. said she was in perfect health and she was off from all of her "legal" drug's. She would sit and talk about her new eating habit's.........only fresh fruit in the morning.........a huge salad and broiled wild salmon in the afternoon and then in the evening just a big blender of raw greens, seaweed, broccoli, etc. Well 3 1/2 months ago when I learned about the raw lifestyle, it dawned on me that my dear mother inlaw is a raw foodist as well. There is no keeping her down! She even goes out dancing up a storm three nights a week at the senior dances! She still runs her antique business but has scaled it down a tad so that she can socialize more with her new boyfriend and lady friends. Dear father in law passed away 11 years ago from pancreatic cancer. They were eating the SAD diet and that led to his cancer It was her new boyfriend who is almost 86 that started her on her new lifestyle. he has been doing it for 40 year's and look's about 65 I would say.

My Dad is 70 and Mom 67. They have been on a health journey for several years, incorporating more and more raw foods. They started juicing several years ago when my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. They are also making green smoothies. My brother and I bought them a vitamix for Christmas and a excalibur dehydrator for their birthdays.
I mainly work on my Mom (she drags my Dad along!) encouraging and motivating ALL the time!! I give them books to read, tapes to watch, and even took my Mom to Hallelujah Acres for a women's retreat. They also receive the Hallelujah Acres newsletter, 'Back to the Garden'. Recently, I gave them the 'Eating' DVD to watch and it is taking them to a higher level of motivation. My Dad was also very impressed with the 'Miraculous Self Healing Body' DVD from Hallelujah Acres (4 medical doctors are featured).
If I had not done all this, they would not be anywhere near where they are. I believe that many people need to have lots of information to understand it all.

What great testimonies, all! I'm the oldest RAW person I know, and it's wonderful to know that people get such fine results from eating RAW in their "mature" years! Thanks for sharing! :)

Over 70
Hi,
My husband and I are 73 and 71, have eaten m/l vegetarian many years, and tried Raw years ago, before there was so much help available. We didn't stick to it then, but are trying it again now with more motivation and more info available. However, after about 5 days on this, tonight Dick got dizzy at Church, hot and cold, upset stomach and very wobbly. Now what? He passed his annual exam just 10 days ago, is usually very healthy, exercises, keeps busy, and loves life.
Was this a reaction to starting cold turkey, just exhaustion, any ideas out there?
Thanks.

Carolyn, is that you??? 'Sounds like a detox thing to me. I'd have him keep eating. If it passes pretty quickly, I'd bet on detox. He could, however, have the flu or some little bug.

My parents are in their 70's and they eat a lot of raw food. They are not on a raw diet specifically, but our family has always eaten a lot of raw fruits, vegetables and nuts/seeds. These days they have to be more careful and can't eat a lot of things with seeds like raspberries or tomatoes. They cause stomach issues.
