Default Chipping auger in Omega 8005?

I noticed several complaints of the Omega 8005's auger chipping or getting grinded against the metal screen resulting in plastic chips/powder I assume in either the pulp, juice or both. Since the auger is made of highly toxic plastic, I'm concerned and no longer sure the Omega 8005 is the best choice or a good choice at all.

Can Omega 8005 owners check their augers closely and reply saying if you notice chipping or grinded parts on the auger?

I would prefer a dual gear metal screw type juicer, but they start at $400 which is way too much.

Default I did a close and careful inspection

and I see no sign of any chipping or grinding, will continue to inspect it. I would certainly claim warranty or defeective parts if I do see it. I once ground up the plastic nut inside the coffee grinder, grinding brown rice for cereal, and I must have eaten it. I'm not too keen on plastic in my juice, as I won't even drink bottled water, unless I am very desparate.

I have no chipping or cracks in my auger but I did make the mistake of assuming my dates were pit free and one was not. I took a chunk from the Auger. I heard it and immediately knew I ruined that batch of date puree.
Omega replaced the Auger. I learned, check for pits and don't run frozen almonds thru it !

Wow, Omega replaced it even though it was an accident? That's good. I also didn't know you could make date puree in these but that's a great idea too, what do you use date puree in?

I asked my friend that has an omega and he also noticed chipping the first weeks. This seems to affect nearly all Omega auger juicers, also look closely as it can be just very faint scratches and not huge chips of plastic.

In any case, I know I said the green star was too much at $400, but since I've found it at $340 ($380 for the top model I want) I'm now 99% sure I'll get the Green Star. My first juicer, a Breville centrifugical, was a terrible purchase, and I don't want to repeat that mistake, so I'm going with the best of the best (it even far surpasses the Norwalk press that costs over $2000).

The green star has just so many advantages over the Omega:
-Extracts 33% more juice (800ml VS 600ml on the omega using same quantity of produce)
-50-200% more vitamins thanks to the magnetic and other exclusive "vitamin extracting" technologies of this juicer
-Better with soft fruits due to special soft fruit kit (coarse screen and lower pressure soft fruit press)
-Adjustable pressure knob for controlling the pressure on the pulp to control juice extraction
-Makes stable juice that lasts 48 hours rather than 15 minutes
    -Removes pesticides
    -No plastic chipping auger

With all these advantages, I'm just about to order the Green Star now!

    Thumbs up Love My Omega!

    Hey All!
I've had my Omega 8500 for almost two years and have never had a problem with it. No chips or defects on auger.... I'm wondering if sometimes when re-assembling it, the auger may get misaligned, cuz sometimes I have to tap it into place???? Just a suggestion. My juice extracts fine; even parsley which would not juice at all in my former juicer (Juiceman Jr)....... I often recommend this juicer to people because of it's versatility and great affordable price!

Thought I'd throw in my two cents!! ;)

I double checked mine (I didn't think it was chipped) and it WAS chipped. I called the company and they just told me to send my old auger in with a note with my return address and they would replace it free. They did not ask for a reason, or reciept or anything. I also emailed them asking if they would consider making the auger out of a different material. I don't want to constantly have to check my auger, or have it replaced out of fear of digesting this material!!

I'll let you know what they say.

Hmm. I'm considering the Omega but I don't want plastic in my food or drink, obviously. Do you think this could be happening from overexerting the juicer? I would only be using it for fruits and veg, as my Vitamix can handle everything else.

I have put most things through the Omega successfully, except a date pit did it in.

I use date puree in deserts. It makes it nice and smooth.
