    Default sunflower seeds for sprouts....

    .......I read somewhere that one can buy sunflower seeds that is meant for birdfood and sprout these to eat... Has anyone done that? .....Deb

    Why Not......They might be even better, I am sure they are Salt Free. PLUS I know they are Cheaper. I would have NO problem using them.

    I use the already shelled ones to sprout.

    sunflower greens are really great tasting, but you have to use the ones w/ the hulls intact.. you grw them for about a week or you can just buy them, already sprouted, at wfm.

    Sunflower greens are great, and it's true that you need to grow the ones that have the hulls. You grow them in soil, keeping them darkness for the first three days by covering the seeds with something. (I grow them in a nursery flat. I put another flat upside down over the bottom tray which keeps them in darkness.) You water them twice a day. Then grow them in light for another four days or so, watering once a day. They are easy to grow and delicious.

    additionally, in regards to the sunflower greens, you may grow them in soil-less situations too.
    I've used the freshlife auto sprouter and they grow well in it....
    but if in a hurry, I buy'em already sprouted.
