    Default Karyns In Chicago

I know there are some thread on this already but wanted to post my experience.

This is my second visit to Karyns and honestly the first time I went although the staff was amazing and I loved the atmosphere of the sit down restaurant, dinner was not exactly amazing! I had to send the pizza back it was sooooo salty, the waitress even sampled it and agreed. So instead I ordered a raw veggie burger that was not anything spectacular. I did have desert last time Tiramisu and that was very tasty!

So I was back in Chicago this week I decided to try again and boy was I glad I did! I skipped the sit down part and just picked out some goodies from Karyn's wide selection of take out. I a mini cheez burger that was very tasty the bun was alittle sweet but after a couple bites it was ok. I hade a great kale salad and guacomole and OMG the corn chips.

I had energy soup that was delicious something I wish I could order from somewhere everyday.

Now her desserts will rock your world but some do have honey. I sampled the apple pie and I have travelled all over the world and every place I stop I go to "the" raw restaurant in town and this is simply the best I have had, very simple buttery curst with a perfectly spiced apple and raisin filling with the best cream on top I have tasted. I also tried the coconut strawberry chocolate cake (OMG) it was like a big layered macaroon with each flavor pleasantly complimenting each other and last but not least the carob mint cake which had frosting I could literally want to speard on everything I eat LOL and a great texture.

Once again the staff were very nice and helpful.

I also purchased some kale chips I have yet to sample.

So the moral of the story is try, try again LOL

    Go Karyn!!

Karyn's is a great place! I agree some of the sit down dinners are heavy or overly-something (spicy, salty etc). The cafe stuff is better.

Oh, about the corn chips - did you have the yellow ones that are roundish?

I used to get those too when I lived in Chi-town and went to Karyns - unfortunatley, someone told me that they are not really raw. (a person who used to work there) . I think she buys them from somewhere - like some Mexican tortilla maker (I forget where) and does something them. I can't remember the exact what though. I just remember being bummed because - yeah, they taste so good - they taste like cooked ones.

My experience was similar although I'd give my left arm to know how she does her "pasta" raviolli. It was SCRUMPTIOUS. My dh's burger was undesireable however but I did enjoy what I got from the cooler in the adjoining shop (could've spent hours and $$$ in there). I would definatley go back tho.... ;)

    Hi,

The came with a guac. and the sun cheez burger. Thats too bad if they are not these were not round though more broken up and really crunchy. I didn't buy any separate as I am not big on corn (hard to digest) but a nice treat thanks for the warning!

OMG I totally forgot to mention the Beet Seed Cheez this stuff is sooo good, nice earthy flavour.

I went through airport security and it was in my bag it tool four security guards to decide if they would let it through. They were like what the heck is Beet Seed Cheez it had the ingredients on it but looked weird. I was like c'mon guys its my dinner don't take it away LOL they did let it through thank goodness!
