Default Chaco Canyon Cafe - Seattle (Review)

What a beautiful Saturday! I just came back from "date day" with my DH and we went to Chaco Canyon Cafe for an early lunch and were plesantly surprised.

As most know it's the ONLY restaurant catering to the raw food group in Seattle. It also serves cooked vegan. The Raw menu is by no mean a side line; I would say 40/60 cooked/raw vegan.

The staff were REALLY welcoming and HAPPY. I dont know about you but happy staff make for a very enjoyable visit. The ambiance was lovley and less "hippy" than I would have imagined definatly more cafe. I considered RawVolution quit "hippy".

    The Food:
    Raw
Lasagna: Served on lovley greens w/ wht & blk sesame seeds & diced tomato. The greens were fresh & crisp. The lasagna was a bit "earthy" for my taste and the tomato paste top layer a bit bitter. It was three layers; a coarsly ground carrot nut base, a center veg layer (unfortunatly I found only one very small slice of zucchini) and a thick top of tomato paste. I would have loved to see lots of veg. It was very filling.
carrot cake: bought a take home sample will report back!
lemon spritzer: OMG this stuff was devine. Seltzer water lemon, ginger & agave. So simple so amazing. I went to the store immediatly after to buy the ingredients!

    cooked vegan
artichoke sanwhich: lots of flavor and satisfying
Thai tomato soup: great thick fresh & rich
7003: Apple, orange, carrot, kiwi, and ginger juice, the best juice he'd had!

My husband wanted to say that your other NONRAW half will not go hungry if they join you. He loved his meal and raved all through it.

They also had a very nice take out fridge with lots of raw treats made there. I bought the carrot cake and the coconut carob cake to have later (pictured below). I also bought a peanut butter bar made with raw peanuts and my DD loved it.

Although the lasagna was not my favorite I believe that was just my taste as I was expecting more of a RawFoodRealWorld take on it instead it was more of a pate slice.

I also liked that the price was great. We paid $50 for two. This included two each of meals, drinks, desserts & a bag of take home treats! Given that I spent almost $100 at RawVolution earlier this month on a LOT less I am very pleased!

My wonderful boyfriend just took me to Chaco Canyon for our 2-year anniversary I had been off the raw path for several months at that point, but eating a 100% raw meal again was very inspiring and now I'm back on track!

I regretted not trying the carrot cake! How was it??

Wow, what a wonderful place. Thanks so much for sharing. We sure have a long, long way to go here in the UK -- not one decent raw food cafe or restaurant in the whole of the country!

I'm glad you had a good time. I was there just yesterday with a raw foods meetup group. I was pleased as the food was actually better than the first time - I really did not like the lasagna then. I had the pizza yeasterday and it was great.

The desserts featured at the beginning of the thread were unfortunatly not very good. I actuallt tossed them - just too heavy and earthy for me.

However yeasterday I had a sample of their oatmeal raisin cookie - OMG - I bought six to take homw. They were hands down the best raw cookie I have EVER had!

Your welcome. It's so funny when I lived in Maida Vale there was a raw restaurant one block away! At the time I had never even heard of the raw way of eating. I regret in hindsite not having gone!

Hey don't fret over not having a good supply of raw eateries. I started my path to health in the UK through woking at Planet Organic and I found the UK to be EXTREAMLY open to alternative ways; much more so than here in the US. I know hard to believe. At the time I was Macrobiotic. I found MUCH more acceptance in the UK as far as my food choices. Boo Hoo miss it sooooo much!

Yes when I was there on Sat a large portion of the menu was new and all very appetising. It was nice to be there with a large group so I could SEE all the plates up close and personal. I got to try the kelp noodle with pesto and liked that too.

And no to forget my fav drink there is the Lemon-Ginger Elixer. When I had it in the summer it was served using carbonated water. On Sat however it was served with BOILING water !

I was a bit shoked but they explained that's how they serve it in the winter but they chnaged it for me with no problem. It's made with fresh lemon, ginger & agave. I make this several times a week and have it at home both cold and warm. It is devine.

Just wanted to put my vote in for Chaco Canyon Cafe - everything I have had there is GREAT! I definately recommend the Spicy Thai Grinder! It's delicious (not that spicy) and served on a bed of cabbage - REALLY good!
    Also the cilantro pizza!
