    Default Rawstaraunts in Washington D.C..

I have to go to Washington D.C. all next week and was wondering if anyone could recommend any raw restaraunts and any health food stores/market places.? I will be staying a couple of blocks north of the Washington Navy Yard and will hopefully get a chance to do some site seeing around the National Mall. Anything in that area would be greatly appreciated as I will be traveling mostly on foot and public transport.

    Thank you,

    Andy

There are 8 health food stores listed here but none of the restaurants mentions raw.

good luck... your best bet is java green, downtown, in northwest by farragut square. get off at farragut north metro, redline, is the closest. java green is on 19th street, between k and l. its not raw, but it is all vegetarian, and they are probably about as raw-friendly as youre going to get, unfortunately. they have juices, salads, smoothies. also, theres a cafe/juice bar on vermont avenue, nw, between k and l that has decent juice. i think they have salads too, but not sure. OR, there is a wholefoods on p st, nw, between 14th and 15th. they have a big salad bar, and i think their store-made cartons of guac and salsa are raw. actually, whole foods might be your best bet. there are a couple of hfs on capitol hill, closer to where you'll be staying; some of them might have juice bars... not sure. these would be on pennsylvania ave, SE. good luck

if you have transport out of the city, there was supposed to be a raw foods place opening in takoma park; i dont know if it ever opened or not; you could get to it by taking red line metro to tacoma.

kaybee -- great suggestions. I go to the "P" St Whole Foods all the time.

The Trader Joe's on 25th St. is another option for affordable organic fruits & veggies.

Yes Organic Market also has four locations in DC -- www.yesorganicmarket.com

In all the listings I have ever seen for DC, the only places listed as "raw" are a couple of juice bars. The P street Whole Foods is a good bet. If you are preparing your own food you could check out a couple of the great farmers markets that still run at this time of year (I believe the one at Dupont Circle runs year-round.
