Newly Raw from Alberta
Hi. I'm a 27 year old mom of three so far and wife to my sweethear. My three lil ones are Rebekah (6 yo), Nephi (almost 4 yo) and Spencer (19 months). We just moved from the Greater Toronto Area (canada) to Southern Alberta. We just started eating raw a couple days ago, but had been eating a healthy, whole foods diet that happened to contain about half raw foods and no junk for most of our family life. I'm glad to be hear and look forward to giving and receiving support.
What brought me to raw was basically God. I had been praying for better health. As I said we did eat a good whole foods diet and no junk food at all, not even for special occasions or so called comfort foods. I was healthier than before yet, it seemed that the improvement was stuck if that makes sense. I did have raw milk that we used liberally and once that was gone (farmer retired and couldn't find another source) my health went down fast. I used to drink 2 quarts a day, sometimes more. I prayed for help as to what to do. With the raw milk, I'd say most of my diet was raw, around 60-75% without it it was probably almost half or so. I then met 2 ladies who seemed to glow, it was as though they had a light around them and they were easily happy, the feeling htey gave off was like a strong spirit or something. After inquiring I found that they were completely raw fooders (although they did include some raw animal foods, like the raw milk). I searched the internet in case it was an answer to prayer and found a few living and raw food websites but was overwhlemed with the complicated recipes. Then my little one was around one-ish and started wanting to eat foods as well as nurse, but refused to eat the organic pureed meals I made for him. Actually he wouldn't eat anything unless it was raw. When I offered cooked foods he'd take a small taste and then want to nurse instead. I worried for months trying to get him to eat before I realised that it was the cooked foods that he was refusing not real foods. So that reminded me but again I was overwhelemd by the complicated recipes which to me made it seem too hard at first glance. Then my thyroid which had been underactive for years and I absolutely refused to take meds for and did improve when got rid of bad foods and went whole (although cooked and it didn't actually heal just improved) started acting up again, I noticed some wrinkles forming in my face, my weight plunged to 90 pounds at 5'3" (due to thyroid), I want to be healthy for another pregnancy sometime next year and my nursing toddler got a bad case of eczema from the increase of cooked foods (that's when it started). The more I researched and prayed the more I came back to raw foods and cutting out the cooked to a char meats, yeasted whole bread and other cooked stuff I was still eating. So, I finally decided that it really doesn't have to be so hard, I didn't need to make complicated recipes. Like Alissa says in her book that as you go on your diet will simplify I could just do that from the start. So, here we are going raw now. My husband who is a meat and potatoes guy (although really trusts in me when it comes to health and nutrition) has agreed to go mostly raw, he said he will go raw except he'd like half our dinners cooked. So, as a family we have been eating everything raw except for half of dinner. It's the third day, I felt so good from the get go but have noticed some acne coming. My milk supply which had started to diminish has gone up and is plentiful. So, it's nice to see some immediate benefits. My 3 1/2 yo, actually refused to eat the cooked part of dinner, he said he didn't like it and his body doesn't need it! And I noticed a complete loss of appetite for the cooked portion of dinner myself and just want to double up on the raw portion. So, that's me in a not so brief nutshell. I'm glad to be here and I'm going raw for good!

Aloha and Welcome to RFT!! WHAT A GREAT INTRODUCTION! Your family sounds lovely - and your kids - well, their intuition is amazing. They are blessed to have a mommy that is so concientious and aware of nutrition and what her babies need!
it also sounds like the acne might be a bit of detox... but it will pass quickly I'm sure... and that is really fabulous that your milk has increased already!
there is a section here for mommies and raw kids... I think it's near the middle or bottom of the general directory page.
I look forward to getting to know you better!
RAWK ON ... and enjoy the ride!!
