Rats like green smoothies too!
So the rats have an upper respiratory infection, and they're on antibiotics, so I've been giving them more treats(mostly things like fruit baby food) Well, I made a green smoothie for myself today and gave them a little and they LOVED it!

Yep! My rats love green smoothies!
I hope your babies get better! I was thinking that one of mine had upper respiratory problems, and I gave her apple cider vinegar with some water and she got a lot better. I think it was just the baby powder I was putting in the cage to deodorize it, heh.
Are your rats raw? Mine are :)
My mom is constantly saying that my rats want pop-tarts instead of greens siiigh
haha
aw, and I'm at work so I can't see your picture(photobucket gets blocked ), but I'll be looking forward to seeing it when I get home!

Hello
No, they're not raw,...but I do feed them the highest quality food available to me. What do you feed yours? I understand they are omnivores, so they need a little bit of meat. I feel weird feeding the rats raw meat though....even though I'm alright feeding it to the cats and dog. They also need a good percentage of grains in their diet,....that's easily found raw though. Let me know because after getting the dog and cats started on raw(been trying for 2 weeks ) I was planning on researching it for the rats too.

So..... that one is hairless on purpose? I mean, he/she comes that way naturally? Not like alopecia from stress...

Oh, I love ratties. I have a white and tan hooded rat like two in the pic. I wondered how rats do on a raw diet. She is on a health food diet with raw treats. No junky people food like I gave my rats in the past on occasion--they love it, but if it's not good for me, it's not good for them. I'm hoping she will have a longer, healthy life as a result.

I just feed them what I eat. I supplement them with green powder to make sure they're getting a variety of greens. I feed them all sorts of fruits, veggies, fresh baby greens, flowers, agave, nuts, seeds. I wasn't aware that rats ate meat in the wild, I suppose maybe things like grubs?? I can't really see a rat taking on any other sort of animal, so it never really occurred to me to feed them raw meat. I did feed one of my rats (cooked) fish when I was eating it, though. I guess they are scavengers and would eat it, though.

I had rats growing up ... My favorite was 'henry' he was white with a dark brown hood and spots down the center of his back... soooo cute! I only fed them raw foods - it never occurred to me to give them meat... well -- my brother mentioned it once - but I would never do it. My friend used to feed his rat meat and his rat was mean (and would even bite occassionally) I just associated the mean attitude with his rat eating meat.... blood lust or something!!! ....
these babys are so cute! love the little hairless one!! heheheee!
Henry ended up getting bronchitis -- my dad and I took Henry to the vet and the whole time my dad kept shaking his head saying... "I can't believe i'm taking a rat to the vet... I can't believe I'm taking a rat to a vet..." and I couldn't stop sobbing... cuz my baby was having so much trouble breathing.... he was my best friend.... (the rat - not my dad)... oh - sorry did that sound bad - I didn't mean it to sound bad!
... this isn't Henry - but he looked a little like this! I even made him a leash and took him for walks around the neighborhood.... what a great friend he was!!

Oo next time I have a GS I will give some to my hamster :)

I've been feeding my rats the leftover bits of the green smoothies I've been making every day. I use a little syringe so it doesn't make a mess. My rats tend to throw bowls upside down if I put them in there. Or sleep in them
It's so cute, when IttyBitty sees the syringe, she grasps onto it and just gulps down smoothie and won't let go when it's empty. Weetzie takes a dollop in her hands and happily slurps away. These rats are addicted, though, its too cute!

Ive never heard of rats eating meat in the wild. I assumed they were herbivores. They have teeth like bunny teeth only little...
I give my bunnies GS too! They transitioning to raw at the moment (!) and are basically just eating my leftovers. They seem much happier
