recipes with few ingredients?
I'm trying to get the hang of all of this.
Some of the recipes sound and look fabulous, but we don't have a lot of money right now. Sometimes there are so many different foods and herbs and various ingredients. I really can't afford that right now.
Would anyone mind posting some of their more simple recipes? With fewer ingredients? I want to do some different things for variety, but I just can't buy all this stuff!
I have a Nesco dehydrator and a Vita-Mix.......
Do you have a health/whole food store nearby, if so you should be able to stockup on quite a lot of items quite reasonably, eg Flax, hemp, sunflower etc seeds,
Dates, Goji Berries Cashews and Almonds and other cheaper nuts, which may or may not be organic.
As well as this seasonal fruit and veg, and maybe young coconuts, depending on where you live.
You will find that alot of recipes call for speciality items which are more expensive in their raw form, eg Agave, cacao, Shoyu personally i can't afford them so use the non- raw versions, it's something you have to decide for yourself, i don't feel less raw or harmed in anyway for including them.
Get yourself a good recipe book, i hear Ani Phyo's is good and has simple recipes. And trawl through the recipes on this site, there are loads of really good one, eg Onion bread is a good tasty staple, Hemp milk is cheap and easy, Green smoothies are good for breakfasts etc, Donut holes, Banana based ice- creams.

Do you have Alissa's book? There are recipes in that, that have few ingredients.....
She makes a sweet avocado spread/dip, and all it has in it, is one avocado, one banana and one clove of garlic....mash all ingredients together, and use as a dip, or spread on a lettuce leaf like an open faced sandwich. A recipe that I LOOOOOVE is Alissa's Choroses - 6 apples, roughly chopped in a food processor (could also grate them, I suppose, or hand chop into small pieces), then chop 2 cups almonds in food processor (again, could roughly chop, although, maybe you could sub. a 'softer' nut, like walnuts), then to nuts add 1 cup honey and some cinnamon, blend together....add mixture to apples and there you go! Only 3 ingredients, and it is DELICIOUS!! And I agree with calamity.....Ani Phyo's book is a great resource as well.
We like this recipe from Instant Raw Sensations by Frederic Patenaude. He actually has a whole section of recipes that are only two ingredients.
Apples with Snow
2-3 sweet apples (golden, red delicious, etc.)
shredded coconut (our variation on this recipe-just sprinkle on top)
Peel and chop or slice apples. Mix in bowl. Then, on a plate, mash the bananas with a fork. Add this on top of the apples. If desired, sprinkle with some cinnamon.
root veggies are quite affordable at this time of year and into winter.
I make a salad from:
grated fresh ginger
(optional) grated apples.
A little vinaigrette (vinegar and oil). I use raw apple cider vinegar, and a little hemp oil, but you can use whatever. It doesn't need much oil, as the beets sweeten the vinegar and make it more mild.
Smoothies are great and super easy, plus you can make a lot of variations.
An easy and rather cheap one is: 2 bananas & 2 oranges. I love to drink it as is, or use it as a base. You can play with it, like adding strawberries or raspberries and/or mango. Or add a few apricots, peaches or nectarines if you can afford them. Delicious.
If you have flax or hemp seeds (both very affordable), you can add a tablespoon of those. You can grind them beforehand if necessary. You can also use a little flax seed or other oil instead.
If you'd like to make a green smoothie, add a handful of spinach (which is usually cheap, or at least, here in The Netherlands). You can use more or less spinach according to taste. You won't believe how good it tastes (totally not spinach like, unless you use a lót of spinach). You could also use other greens, which I haven't tried yet.
You can make a lot of different and easy smoothies this way.
Lettuce wraps are always easy and any veggies will work. I like mushrooms (button or portobella), red bell pepper and onion marinated in a little olive oil, nama shoyu, chili powder and cumin. Nama shoyu cost a bit but goes a very long way as it only takes a little.

These are great ideas...
One thing I always enjoy is some sliced mushrooms and tomatoes with really chopped up fresh basil and some olive oil and whatever garden-y herb/spices you have and some salt to taste. It's yummy.
It's so easy to do variations on this too by just slicing the tomatoes and making some sort of tomato and something salad (ie cucumbers, zucchini... whatever you have on hand). Then, if you wanted, you could take a leafy veggie (chard or collard or whatever) and wrap this in it to make it feel more gourmet. :)
This is totally up my alley
-lettuce cut up really small (strips)
-tomatoes cut up really small with a serrated knife.
-cukes cut up really small
flavor all with acv and salt and pepper and cumin
-frozen strawberries let out to unfreeze
-seeded black raisins (flavorful)
-a few dates
-a pear or apple
pulse in the food processor until chunky pudding texture. YUMM!

put cinnamon or vanilla if you like and pulse in food processor. You can put almond or banana milk on if you like. I like it this way. You can also make it thick and then roll into balls and roll into coconut.

Oh, yeah, the chilli has only a few ingredients....
I'd love to see a "5 ingredients or less" type recipe book for raw foodies. Some of the food looks awesome and would be great for entertaining but for day to day what am I gonna have for supper today type meals its not always practical.
I know that StoneSoup has one as well as some very cool 'make these 5 meals from these 10 ingredients' type lists, if I could find a raw version I would be a happy camper.

A couple of my all time faves are cabbage burritos.
Large piece of red cabbage - lay it down and top it with
Avocado, fresh garlic and any type of tomato and wrap it up!
Next is a pie
For the crust I soak be it walnuts or almonds... chop it up in blender and then add dates. Get it thick and this is the crust.
Then I add a mixture of berries... blend it first.
Or sometimes I'll do a banana pie. Blend some bananas then add a layer of that mixed with cocao or carob. Carob taste best. Top with raw coconut flakes. And yes.. same crust as above.
button cremini (whole or halved if large)
dressing made with olive oil, lemon juice, honey, salt and pepper
onion sliced into half rings
lots of garlic sliced thinly
finely chopped parsley
mix all together, cover and marinate over night
