Default salt water flush and basti

the salt water flush from the Master Cleanse is an excellent colon cleanse. i did it every day while on the cleanse, and now i do it once a month just for good measure. oooh, it does taste NASTY tho. blech.

under the advice of my ayurvedic practitioner, i also did a 5 day basti enema treatment (warm oil enemas with medicinal herbs). inexpensive. self-administered. really helped my colon's ability to absorb nutrients from the foods that i eat.

    Default Basti

5 days of warm sesame oil and water enemas (1 per day, self-administered). For 3 of the five days, my ayurvedic practitioner mixed up an herbal blend to simmer in the water for 15 minutes prior to the enema.

i can't remember exactly the herbal formulas she mixed up for me, but i think you'd definitely want to have an ayurvedic assessment of YOUR system (they take readings from a bunch of pulse points and look at your tongue... it was amazing, she looked at my tongue and said "do you have chronic upper back pain?" - -which I DO! and its improving dramatically now...) and have a custom formula mixed up. or depending on what your imbalances are, basti might not be the right thing for you. (i think basti balances kapha, so if you have a kapha imbalance, it works.)

I was quite skeptical about the self-administration thing... but it was actually super easy.

i love ayurveda. i've found it to be an interesting, useful, and inexpensive (after the initial $80 assessment, i have $20 check ups every 1-2 months, and i think all the basti herbs AND a big bottle of sesame oil AND a 30 day custom formula of daily herbs cost me $20) way of monitoring and balancing my system.
