Is growing Wheatgrass easy?

We just got our healthy juicer today and then our wheatgrass supplier fell through. I'm looking into ways to grow our own and have noticed that a lot of people have problems with mold. Is growing wheatgrass easy or would it just be worth the 26.00 per flat that I can get through our co-op via special order?

Sorry, wanted to address the mold question. I found that trying to grow in my own house in a 10X10 tray, caused lots of mold. When I started growing in my greenhouse, with larger trays, better air circulation, there wasn't much at all. Could be seed, could be growing conditions.

You can grow WG yourself for a small fraction of the cost of buying it from your co-op. Its not hard to grow but you do have to give a little of your time everyday to the project. Growing it yourself puts you in control of the process and in my opinion thats a huge benefit. If you like growing living plants then its a fun project.

Is wheat grass edible, like in a salad?

No, you can't put wheatgrass blades on your salad. You could chew it and spit out the pulp. But you'd have to chew an awful lot to get about 2 ounces, and your jaw would get very tired. Cows are different altogether. They can chew grass, take in the juice, and then poop out the pulp. We don't have that capability.

We grow our own and put the blades in the vitamix for green smoothies. It makes the smoothies sweet and then I don't feel like I am wasting all the pulp. We juice too though.
