    Default Juicing Problems

    Hello,

For whatever reason, if I juice with fruit or fruit in green juice, I can become sick, even seizures. Some people say to eat your fruit rather than drink them and you can juice your vegetables. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I admit that I have abuse sugary foods all my life. I wonder is this a result of that. When I drink the fruit juice I believe it goes to my bloodstream to fast and my body can't handle. Perhaps my blood sugar rises and then drop too fast to a low bloodsugar state causing these problems from years of glucose abuse, I don't know. I know stress and worry doesn't help. I am wondering will my body build up a tolerance for the glucose in fruit or fruit juices. I am afraid to eat an apple at this point:-(

I am so sensitive to glucose, fructose, etc., that raisins, carobs and nuts that are in Alissa's incredients that they can cause me problems. I tend to binge on anything sweet, raw foods included. You know the phrase, "Can't stop eating them." Maybe if I can control my intake, the above will take care of itself.

Anyone experienced my problem? I would appreciate any feedback, suggestions, etc. Thank you very much.

    Pete

I feel ill equipped to advise you. I am wondering if your produce is organic? Could you possibly be having a reaction to pesticides? If you reduce your intake you will be miserable because on raw you need to eat more as the food is less dense. Over time of being 100% raw you will eat much much less according to some because your healed body will maximise the nutrition received. Many of us needed to avoid fruits when we started raw and some still avoid fruits because of sugar issues.

    Default Juice Problems

    Leaf,

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I do use organic products. It's rare when I don't. I wonder if years of over eating sugary foods, my body must heal and adjust to eating foods high in sugar, whether that be glucose, fructose or whatever form the sugar is in. Juicing, as I understand it, can really cause sugar problems because it goes straight into the bloodstream of the body. I can't go two weeks without binging on health bars, organic trail mix (raisins may be the culprit in this mix), or something that took the place of eating processed candy bars such as Larabar Health bars (cashews) which are very high in sugar as well, or whatever it may be. I know I eat too many at one sitting.

I hear of so many people healing from all kinds of illnesses from juicing but wonder if I should just hold of from eating or juicing fruit, yet, continue the raw diet.

Knowing that some people have to abstain from fruits says alot. Again, thank you for your information.

For a long time I only used fruit like tomato and cucumber and avocado. I am trying not to be diabetic as it is genetic tendency in my family and I show many of the pre-diabetic symptoms at this point in time.

Many people here say that the Green Smoothies cure their sugar cravings and I have to concur that it has been true for me also - even before I started putting sweet fruits in.

It could be a blood sugar glucose/insulin problem. If you are using carrots those have a lot of sugar in them. I usually have to put celery in my juices. There's something about the celery salts that stops me from having blood sugar problems from juices. I had hypoglycemia in the past. Before I was drinking green smoothies everyday I would drink a carrot/celery (and some green or veggie) juice every day, and that helped with the cravings. There is just something in celery that balances out my blood sugar - and therefore, I don't have the sweet cravings.

Also, I can't eat all the fruit many raw foodists do, and only put a small amount in my green smoothies.

    Default Thanks!

    Seed & Leaf,

Boy, what a connection with your names:-)

I want to thank the both of you for your suggestions. I am sure I have blood sugar/glucose/insulin problems. I guess that would mean my pancreas is not working properly.

I will take your suggestions and try them out. Yes, carrots do cause me problems as well. Sometimes eating fruit does also. I just bought some celery and will try juicing them along with my other greens. I need to stop the cravings! I am told the pancreas can heal in time. I didn't always have this problem with fruit, but abuse of sugar probably took its toll over the years.

Again, thank you Seed and Leaf. Now all we need is a Flower and a Tree to come along to sprout us a Forest. Fruition at the fullest!! Just teasing.

    With love,
    Pete

I have a book called Encyclopedia of Healing Juices, by John Heinerman, that claims string bean juice is one of the best veggies for people who have blood sugar issues, because it resuscitates the pancreas. I haven't tried it myself though.

By the way, have you tried using the water of a Young Thai coconut in your smoothies to sweeten them? They are the white ones with the pointy heads. You wouldn't have to add any fruit, because the water is sweet but doesn't have the effect of fruit or other types of sweetners. The water is truely a life-giving, (not life-taking) food. Here is a list of everything in the water:

Here is some information about Coconut Water:

"It's a natural isotonic beverage, with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. It's the fluid of life, so to speak." In fact, during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water - siphoned directly from the nut - to give emergency plasma trasfusions to wounded soldiers.

Most coconut water is still consumed fresh in tropical coastal areas - once exposed to air, the liquid rapidly loses most of its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics, and begins to ferment.

Coconut Water is More Nutritious than whole milk - Less fat and NO cholesterol!
Coconut Water is More Healthy than Orange Juice - Much lower calories
Coconut Water is Better than processed baby milk- It contains lauric acid, which is present in human mother's milk
Coconut water is naturally sterile -- Water permeates though the filtering husk!
Coconut water is a universal donor-- Its identical to human blook plasma
Coconut Water is a Natural Isotonic Beverage - The same level we have in our blood.
Coconut water has saved lives in 3rd world countries thru Coconut IV.
"Coconut water is the very stuff of Nature, biologically Pure, full of Natural Sugars, Salts, and Vitamins to ward off fatigue... and is the next wave of energy drinks BUT natural!", according to Mortin Satin, Chielf of the United Nation's Food & Agriculture Organization.

Coconut water contains more potassium (at about 294 mg) than most sports drinks (117 mg) and most energy drinks.

Coconut water has less sodium (25mg) where sports drinks have around 41mg and energy drinks have about 200 mg!

Coconut water has 5mg of Natural Sugars where sports and energy drinks range from 10-25mg of Altered Sugars.

Coconut water is very high in Chloride at 118mg, compared to sports drinks at about 39mg.

Data is based on a 100ml drink.

    Good Luck.
    Cindy
