    Default Birthday treats-need help!

My daughter's birthday is in 2 weeks. She, of course, wants to bring treats to her class. We are on a VERY limited budget and don't have a dehydrator yet. I'm tempted to just go buy a box of cookies and call it a day, but would love to give the kids something tasty and healthy. There are 33 kids in her class too! I've had some great luck with raw deserts, but I've found them to be a bit pricey (and messy) to make and package 33 of them...any ideas? I don't necessarily need to bring food, but like I said, it needs to be economical.

She is also having a party. She wants pizza and chips...without a dehydrator, I don't see a way around that, but do you guys have any fun raw snack recipes geared at 10 year olds that you don't need a dehydrator to make (and aren't too pricey)?

    Thank you!!

Are you allowed to bring in treats that you've made? At my daughter's school, things need to be pre-packaged. If I were you, I'd get small apples or oranges and maybe something non-edible like fancy pencils.

I know not raw but we have actually done commercial organic no suagar fruit juice popcicles and they have gone down a treat! The little single stick version.

The kids love the novel treat, they are cheap and do not require a dehydrator or much fuss.

You can make coconut icecream cup cake. I use the soft baking mold, freeze it and then you can put them in cup cake paper. I use a large thermal with ice pack from whole food. I have done this before for my daughter's school and children loved it. Nut free and coconut aren't that expensive.

Just blend the coconut meat in your blender, add coconut water enought to blend or be thick like a sauce, add sweetner that you like, vanilla. You can add cacao if you want chocolate, or frozen strawberry if you want a different flavor.

Add little plastic spoon and voila

You can make macaron with shredded coconut (No nuts), you can find plenty of receipe on the web.

I work for a school system and you better check this out as here are MANY restrictions in our district and food allergies and such.

I think I'd forego any food and do cutsie little dollar store gift bag goodies.

I personally cannot bring myself to purchase any sad/crap food and contribute to the illness of anyone. But that's me.

Make raw brownies and double the amount so you can make a huge tin full and cut them in like 2 inch X 2 inch squares.. kids dont need to eat birthday cake size brownies anyway

I agree that you better check out your school's policy first, as nuts are not allowed at some schools. I like the idea of sliced apples, maybe with a caramel type dip made out of dates.

Great ideas. Thanks everyone. I will check with her teacher about what I can bring and I am going to search the recipe threads for some of your ideas...I'm thinking the brownies would be wonderful. I could go for some right now!
