The right side of my neck is swollen, as it would be if I had strep throat. Just the right side, though, the left side feels/looks fine. It feels like both the gland & lymph nodes are rock hard, and the pain radiates into my ear, jaw and shoulder. I can hardly turn my head to look to the right. Do you think this is part of detox, or something more serious? I just think it's strange it's only on the right side of my body. My neck is so swollen, I hardly have a chin!
Anyone experience this or something similar?
Thanks for your help!
How long have you been raw? When I first started, my throat was SO SORE for at least 2 weeks. Although it wasn't noticably swollen on the outside like that... do you have allergies?
"There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way."
I've been 100% for only one week. This is hitting me hard.. I have a low grade fever as well.
It's all detox. If you feel to do something, warm water, add salt, gargle and spit.
Get your lymph moving.
It also means that whatever you are trying to expel is caught in the lymph gland. Lymph drains into the thoracic duct in your chest, so you could do a very light downward stroking with a good oil (maybe add a few drops of peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil if you have it.) You will do this in a milking motion from just below the jawbone to your clavicle. You should be able to rub the knot out in about 20 minutes. I do it for my children when they get a sore throat and it works wonders to get rid of them in less than 1/2 hour. I use an oil called tei fu, but the combination I mentioned should be enough.
thank you -
I went to the doctor under the urging of family members, and she put me on antibiotics that should really throw my system for a loop. She didn't know what was wrong, and wanted to do a blood test to check for mono at the end of this week if it doesn't clear up. I am trying all of your suggestions, the massaging is working and I am alternating between hot and cold compresses, and using an all-natural mud mask on my neck to try and draw out some toxins (not sure if it works, but it feels nice). I hope this clears up by the end of the week, and I'm afraid I might have mono.
Thanks again everyone for your help. I'm staying raw through all of this, even though antibiotics are hell on my stomach. 2-3 green smoothies a day!
Yes, Yes, Yes!
I have been raw for three mos., I have had the same symptoms at least 4-5 times, one side then the other, could hardly swallow or speak, pain radiating all the way down. It never developed into anything more, only lasted a day or two. I felt it was just that, stuff moving through the lymph system, though I took medicinal herbs an ate tons of garlic, anyway. But this time, just two days ago, I attributed it to the prednisone I just started taking again, thinking it was a side effect. There is so much to detoxing we don't know.
Whenever I get sick or cheat on my raw food diet, this is exactly the fault line in my constitution every time! That and I feel stupid. What a combination. But I've cheated enough to know I've had it triggering these symptons on purpose. I wonder if it'll flare up again as detox now that I'm wholly raw.
Would sweating help? I believe bouncing on a mini-trampoline gets the clogged up lymph system circulating.
What herbs help with this?
my fever finally broke yesterday, and I've been sweating like a pig ever since! and I stink!!! It must be all the toxins... but I've had to take 2 showers a day for the past 2 days. I'm glad it's all coming out finally. The swelling in my neck is starting to come down as well. I was afraid I was really 'sick' instead of just detoxing... well, I must've been sick all along if all of that junk is coming out of me...
I'm feeling better, I still have a lump under my jaw on the right side of my neck, but it's coming down a lot and I can move my neck now. :whew:
I've been 100% raw for 5 days now - and before that, about 85-90% raw for 3 months.
