Do you think it's normal to feel really sick shortly after drinking juice?
I haven't juiced in a long time, but this morning I decided to juice some of my produce that I am just not eating - it's delivered to my door every Wednesday via a co-op and some of it I just don't have a taste for.
So I juiced 2 cucumbers, about 8 tomatillos, 3 apples, and 2 cups of ground cherries. I drank about half of it, and then 10 minutes later felt really ill - like I was going to throw up! I had to lay on the couch for a while and fight it; I still feel queasy, almost an hour later.
So did I just come up with an awful combo, or is it some kind of an immediate detox symptom? I'm high raw right now, the past 7 days or so I've been eating a little bit cooked every day. What do you think?
Could it be bad indigestion? Lately I find certain juices give me a bad pain at the top of my back on both sides...but I finally decided it's likely indigestion.
If you drank it quickly, without "chewing", then it could have been a sort of detox reaction--your stomach releasing mucus, or some such.
I think it's an interesting combination. *wrinkles nose* How'd it taste?
I felt that way after I juiced some greens and didn't dilute enough. Juices are potent stuff. I personally feel it is a detox reaction.
Could it be an allergic reaction?
Could the large influx of juice be causing an allergy?
In my caotic search for a healthy diet I began drinking large quanties of a blended vegetable juice available here in the UK. I started to get headaches and my fatiqued returned with vengence. I thought it was just detox headaches, but I've since read up that tomatoes are in the top 10 causes of allergies (it was 60% tomatoe juice). I've greatly reduced my intake of the veg juice drink and feel much better, I've since realised that the juice I was drinking has a long self life and therefore it's probably not raw... I must buy myself a juicer!
This is my first time on this website and this is my first posting of a 'thread'. It's a VERY interesting site, and I'm really looking forward to going fully raw.

Jay Kordich, the original "JuiceMan" says to not mix fruits and vegetables in juicing (except for a few noted below) because fruits want to digest quicker and have different enzymes than vegetables. His staple is Carrot, Apple, and a little bit of Beet. Then if you add greens, they should be no more than a quarter of the glass. The ones that "cross over" are apples and carrots. Carrots can be juiced with anything. Don't peel them, just wash really good if they are organic. Apples seem to realy help in covering up bitter veggies. My favorite are Gala Apples. Another rule is to never mix melons with anything else. The saying is ... Melons alone or leave them alone. Watermelon can be mixed with cantelope or honeydew, but not with other fruits. They digest the quickest and mixing them with anything can cause gastric distress. So, try milder juices. Start with Carrot/Apple. Then slowly add other veggies OR fruits. It might have just been a Enzyme clash in your stomach that caused the nausea. Straight wheatgrass juice can do that to me, if I have more than an ounce at a time -- a definite blood cleaner. Oh, one more thing, many serious juicers say to not drink more than 8 to 10 ounces in one sitting, b/c the body cannot absorb more than that an hour. When I juice too much carrot (ie... 36 ounces or more a day) every day, I get orange hands/palms and an orange complexion after a month, probably b/c my body is maxed out on absorbing the beta carotene.
