Victoria B. Talk in Evanston IL
Hey, :) is anybody going to hear Victoria Boutenko give a talk at Lake Street Church in Evanston IL on Saturday Sept. 15th? Has anybody here gone to one of her talks yet? It's $15 for the ticket, the lecture, and a green smoothie! Sounds good to me!

Yes! Go!
Oh do go and post back how it was and what you learned, please! I also noted that she is going to be here in Michigan soon but I can't get there. I am so disappointed. I was sure the cost here was $25 a person though. I read in Victoria's newletter I think it was that her new smoothie book is finished and she is now on the speaking tour to raise the funds for the publishing of the book! I would love to go to support that but can't. Anyhow I cant wait for that book to be released. I just finished reading Green For Life, started the 12 Steps to Raw Foods and have watched her video Greens Can Save Your Life. I am now officially hooked on green smoothies

Yes I will definitely try and go! Unfortunately, I hadn't heard about it till just recently so I've yet to register or get tickets . Hopefully there is still room left at the lecture so that I can purchase it tomorrow!
Blueberries, sorry you can't make it to the talks in Michigan! You were right, according to her site, she'll visit 3 different locations in Michigan and one of them is $25 while the other two are $15. I think it's because the $25 talk comes with a meal while the $15 talks come with a green smoothie.
Well if I get a ticket, hopefully <cross fingers> :) , and I do end up going I will definitely post here how it went!
Though I must admit, I am a little nervous about going because I am not 100% raw yet. That's actually why I really want to go, because I'm hoping to get re-inspired and go back to 100% (I'm raw all day till dinner time comes dinner is my weakness!) I'm just scared that there might be all 100% raw foodists there that look great and healthy, and i'll stand out like a sore thumb being the only cooked unhealthy one there! I'm still going to try and go though, maybe i'll just sit in the back Never thought I'd be so ashamed to eat cooked food!

I have seen Victoria speak before - she is very friendly and down to earth so don't be nervous. She is like a "mom" type of person. :)
Also, if you haven't been to a lot of raw speaking events before - honestly, alot of the people who go are sick, don't look all healthy and stuff which is why they go - to learn about how to get better. A lot of people are not 100% either.
If you are interested the Chicago Raw Food Community is holding a potluck after the event:

I am not going but if you are interested in meeting more raw foodists potlucks are the way to go.
have fun!

So what did you think, hmmm??? LOL Couldn't resist. Looking forward to your review. Did Victoria happen to mention when her new book might be out?
Ok, I didnt know Victoria was going to be in Michigan in 3 different locations!! So I rushed to her site to see where, unfortunately those places arent any closer for me. Oh well, back to reading the 12 steps...

Sorry it took me so long to write about the talk! First let me just say I am real glad I did end up going because I got to meet Smileen! To whom I owe a HUGE THANKS to because she was nice enough to give me a free ticket since her friend was unable to make it. So THANK YOU SMILEEN! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! :) Next time there is a talk your ticket is on me!
And yes I did make it home okay thanks for asking! Though when a fellow driver tried to cut me off, guess what I thought? "I should kick you in the shins! THE SHINS!" haha, that is now my favorite insult thanks to you! By the way, was the DVD you got any good?
queenfluff, you were right, Victoria did seem real nice and friendly. And it was my first raw speaking event, though definltely not my last! I wasn't able to make the potluck, but I was considering joining that meetup, thanks for the link!
blueberries - I thought the talk was good! Very informative!! I believe she said the new book should be out by November but maybe Smileen could confirm that. Sorry I can't exactly remember, I did take a mini notepad and pencil to take notes, but after awhile I just sat there and listened. She talked about her own experience including her family's and how greens have helped them and their health. She talked about the research she did, including the chimpanzee's and their diet. She talked about nutrients and the common deficiency's and symptoms people get due to lack of greens. She talked about the difference between organic and commercial fruits and veggies. She talked about how important it is for one to rotate their greens, something about alkaloids. She also had visual aids in the form of charts, though I wish she had had some sort of projector screen or powerpoint presentation because I could not see at all, and I am big on visual aids! About halfway through they gave out smoothies which was good too.
Sorry I couldn't be more specific, it's just that after a certain amount of numbers and facts, my mind tends to wander . Especially since I kept wondering about whether or not my parking meter would time out, I did not want a ticket!
Overall, I thought it was a good lecture. The smoothie was good, the people were great, and the information was useful. I was just happy to go out, and get to talk with like-minded people. This lecture has definitely inspired me to attend more raw food events so I could meet more people, great people like Smileen, who have similar interests in striving for better health through raw. Which by the way, I might already be going to my second event, tomorrow at a Whole foods store in Wheaton, IL. I'll make a seperate event thread about it so as not to make this post any longer than what I have already made of it , sorry!

Hi Hmmm! You are most welcome for the ticket. It was great to meet you too!! Kicking 'em in the shins comes in handy when one is angry and you only want to leave an impression and not hurt the person too much!
The DVD I bought, Interview with Sergei Boutenko, was very good though it was different than I thought it would be. Since it won 1st place as the funniest video at the raw film festival I thought it would be alot funnier. Though there were funny parts, it was really, indeed, what the title says, an interview with Sergei...and that is not a bad thing. It provided great insight into what it is like to be a young raw fooder and how he dealt with being different while growing up. He seems quite together and a nice young man. There is alot of inspirational material in it. I was happy I bought it.
Yes, I believe Victoria said her next book would be out in approx. a month or so.
Glad you made it home ok, hmmm. I would have liked to attend the Wheaton event, but had a conflict. Take care and hope to see you next time!!!!!
