"simplyraw Festival & Raw Pie Contest"
The SimplyRaw Festival featuring the Totally Raw Pie Contest
Sponsored by the Table Vegetarian Restaurant
Saturday September 15, 2007 from 10am-5pm
Central Park in the Glebe
The 2nd annual SimplyRaw Festival featuring the Totally Raw Pie Contest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10-5pm at Central Park, in the Glebe. This non-profit event is open to the public. Join us to celebrate healthy lifestyles with an emphasis on raw vegan foods. Building on the success of last year's event, this year’s festival will feature more pies, local celebrities, food demos, talks, exhibitors, yoga, music, fire dancing, activities for the little ones, and of course, fabulous raw food!
The highlight of the event will undoubtedly be the raw pie contest. SimplyRaw is accepting up to 30 entries - no cooking allowed! All pies will be made using only fresh
raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains. Pies will be judged by a panel of local celebrities, including Ron Eade, food editor of the Ottawa Citizen, Gerry Lepage,
executive director of the Bank St. Business Improvement Association and others soon to be announced.
Other exciting events include a line-up of celebrated speakers including: Brendan Brazier, professional raw vegan ironman triathlete, best-selling author, and creator of Vega products; Matt Monarch, author and internationally recognized speaker; and Tonya Kay, professional raw vegan dancer and athlete who performed with the Off-Broadway phenomenon Stomp. A series of raw food demos will also grace the stage throughout the day, with raw chefs sharing their secrets to creating tasty delights from uncooked plant foods.
This non-profit community festival is organized by raw vegan wife and husband, and Glebe residents, Natasha Kyssa & Mark Faul of SimplyRaw. They also host monthly raw vegan potlucks at St. Giles church in the Glebe, with a regular turnout of 60-100+ people. Natasha is the daughter of Ilse Kyssa, former owner of the Pantry Vegetarian Tea Room in the Glebe Community Centre.
Come out, bring a blanket, enjoy the festivities and indulge your taste buds with wildly creative foods. An unforgettable experience for all!
