Default fungus growing on the blades of wheatgrass blades

    Hello,
Can anyone help me? I have just grown 6 trays of wheatgrass in compost, in a cold frame and, over the last 5-6 weeks and they all start off ok, but then they go paler green to yellow with spots of a powdery stuff on them, like dirt has splashed up on them. It has been damp here in the UK with dry warm spells. My cold frame lid is covered with that fine meshed plastic stuff used for shading greenhouses. The water gets in but not the bugs. What is happening and how do I deal with it?

Mold, spider webbing, can usually be washed off. It could be anything. If you could send me a picture to my regular mail, I'll take a look. Try washing it off. If it is down by the root system, don't cut that low when you harvest. It is common. Sometimes it's the seed, sometimes it's air circulation, sometimes it's what was in the compost. Don't throw out the batch. Good Luck. Happy growing.
I'd rather juice my grass!

You could also try putting them out in the sun for a bit and see if they turn greener.

The powdery stuff is actually on the blades of the grass, in blotches, up the length of the blade. I'll see if I can get a picture of it.

Were you ever able to figure out the cause, and solution to this fungus? I have the exact same problem.

better ventilation is often the best solution. A small fan blowing gently over the grass can often work and it helps the grass grow strongly too.

yup a fan works awesome. I used 2 small pc fans in my setup and i got 0 mold and my grass looked pretty green and grew well for my first time around. You can see pictures in my other post of growing wheatgrass. Hope this helps you out.
