    Default Common Sense

O.k., somebody help me out here.

I've read quite a few posts here where folk say that raw food has made them "sick".

Let's examine this a bit. What they are saying is that, raw, whole, mostly fresh, organic, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and sprouted grains ~ the food that has been provided from mother nature to feed a human body ~ has made them "sick"?

Now, how can that be? *raises my hand* I know! I know! Experiments have been done on folk who drink colas and it has been found that ~ their systems are use to having this in them and when it is removed, their bodies crave it. The same goes with any drug ~ caffeine, sugar, cooked fats, etc. ANY drug the body has become use to will be craved! Simple, isn't it?

What many don't seem to know is that ~ WHEN these things are removed from the system, the system will have to go through detoxification. The body might be lethargic; old (and even new) aches and pains will come up; skin eruptions! (the skin is a third lung/kidney ~ both of which are expellers of waste).

You most likely will not feel well! It's very likely to happen!

Thing is, IF you do not allow yourself to go through the detox, you cannot come out the other side! Is it uncomfortable? Heck yeah! Is it painful? For many, heck yeah! I've been told when folk get off coffee many experience migraine headaches. What does that tell you? Coffee is poison! What do you thing someone on coke or other drugs has to deal with? YES! Cooked food makes you feel good! (actually, it numbs you to what you MIGHT be feeling).

When someone eats cooked foods or puts caffeine and/or other drugs into the system, the system will automatically surround that with mucuous. When one stops eating this stuff, the mucous HAS to go somewhere. For many, it may go into the joints and/or muscles. For some, out the nose; others, out some other orifice. There are ways to assist this in happening so one can go into and through it faster.

Enough for now. Something for you to consider. Also, for those of you who have questions/doubts, re-read Alissa's book. She explains much of this. And, next time you have doubts, read it again. I'm re-reading and I don't have any doubts. Raw, whole, fresh, organic foods are good for me!!!

Great Post Revvell! I agree about detox. I had a kidney stone going through detox 3-4 weeks after I began. The first 3 days were hell coming off of coffee. YES detox can be hell for a few days but once you get on the other side you really start to feel GREAT! Sometimes folks that are full of toxins etc... will go through many detoxes before they finally rid their bodies of junk. I know I'm not done because I think I'm going through one again where my skin is breaking out more than usual. I'm still not 100%, I'd say 95%... I can't keep from nibbling while I cook for my family.

I'm getting there I just keep on keeping on! Hang in there gang and don't forget to drink extra water when you notice detox symptoms it will help flush them out faster.

    LOVE,
    Angie

Ya know, perhaps this post, or one similar, should be added to the new forum about learning about raw foods, so newbies (or those that don't have Alissa's book) know what to expect and don't think they are getting "sick" on raw. The post could go into further detail about what to expect, duration (different for everyone and why), etc.

    What do you think? Alissa?

Good idea. Maybe a thread could be started there where we could all post what kinds of symptoms we had while detoxing since everyone is different.

    Default Posting Detox Symptoms-Great Idea

    Oh Ladies,

Please, please, please do. I am starting a cleansing fast tomorrow for 1 week then the 30 Challenge on Sunday, 5/1. I am really commited to this change but it would be extremely helpful if I know what to expect so that I do not possibly "Freak Out" when certain things begin to happen with my body.

    thanks

When I posted this, I wasn't specifically talking about fasting. Many people, because of their previous food programs, when they begin eating raw, will experience detox as good food is just NOT what their systems are use to. In many cases, those who've been eating lots of dead animal flesh, sodas, alcohol, etc., might wish to start with raw, fresh juices rather than water ~ which is what a fast truly is.

Even so, here is a site which gives quite a bit of good info (only upon a quick read ~ if you find otherwise, please notify me and I will delete).

    Default Increasing Fiber Intake

I also wanted to add, that when people add more fiber to their diets gas, bloating, and sometimes diarrhea are normal at first!! People will add in all these great fruits and veggies to their diets, and have the above symptoms and think "I can't digest this"! and ease off on these nutritious foods. When in reality, most people are getting waaay less fiber than they need before they start raw. So if you keep up with the higher amounts of fruits and veggies, your system will adjust to it, and your digestion will be healthier than ever.

Revvell, this post was a great idea (as usual )

MODERATOR COMMENT: Please, either PM (private message) the person or start a new thread in the Juicing/Sprouting forum (that's where most fasting threads are started) so this one can stay within the realm it was intended. Thanks! :)

    Blue_sky ~ Thanks! :)

...and thanks for the addition. So true, eh? Folk think they are getting fiber from meat when it's exactly what's clogging them. VERY good point.

    Revvell, wonderful thread..THANK you!!

Ladies, excellent suggestion about adding "common detox symptoms" to the "Wanna Know more about raw?" forum!

Maybe someone would like to start a new thread in either the Other Topics/Health-Related OR the Raw Foods Discussion Forum (IF we're talking about detox that occurs when one goes raw) and ask other members to list things they went through in the way of detox once they went raw...even if it they've been raw for a while because let's face it, IMHO, if it takes YEARS to accumulate all of that "stuff" and to eat that way...then to me, it only makes sense for it to take a while to get it all out of one's system (i.e. more than a few days, a few weeks or even months). Then, from the experiences given, we can post them in that forum.
    Detox getting rough?
    Let's "smooth it out"!

*shrugs* Hell, I dunno. Same reason folk think eating raw, organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. is bad? lmao

I also think that certin people have problems like eating too many nuts or dried fruit -then group it all together and say raw isnt helping them.....
