    Default Where do you forage?

I'd love to start foraging... I don't have much time left before the cold weather starts again.

So, my main concern with foraging isn't "what" so much as "where?". Is it safe to eat from the side of the road? the back yard? Do I have to find someplace secluded that's never been mowed? someplace with no foot traffic? Help me out here guys, I'm a real foraging n00b.

I guess a better question might be: "Where do you forage?"

I'm new at this too. Last Sunday I went riding on my bike through the forest nearby and I noticed people rummaging through the bushes. So I'm thinking: "blackberries!" Too bad I didn't bring a bag to put them in. I'll have to go back one of these days to pick some more of them because they're a LOT cheaper this way than in the store. ;)

I would prefer to pick them deep into the forest rather than by the side of the road, though. Can't imagine that all the exhaust fumes are good for them. I would love to find a field of dandelions somewhere away from the roads too...

    This is fun. :)

    Default fun!

i have a wild blackberry patch growing on the outskirts of my property. it gives me great pleasure to forage in it. this is a topic that i would like to learn more about also. i wouldn't be able to forage in the yard as dh has a lawn company apply chemicals to it regularly to "keep it green" i'm very interested to learn more about foraging

I'd also like to learn about foraging. I tried looking up websites, but to no avail. Everything on the websites seemed to be "up north" plants. I'm in South Florida. I have no idea where to start.

hm... forest, you say? I think I've got an idea of where I could go. There's a wooded area a few miles away with a walking path that weaves its way throughout the woods. I'm excited! Now I've just gotta look up a few things I could forage for. Lambsquarters will be one. I wonder what else there could be...

If you put "forage" in the search bar there are lots of threads on it.

There was another thread on foraging earlier this year (?). I'll see if I can't find it and get back to you later ~ Cathy

    Here it is: http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.ph...light=foraging

I googled out "foraging Milwaukee" and not only did I find some people who forage, but...

THERE'S A RAW MEETUP GROUP IN MILWAUKEE

It's new, but there's quite a few people in it already. I'm excited. Can you tell?

Hmm. You forage wherever. At some point you develope an immune system and possibly dome depth.

I know where there is a small grove of wild plum trees that you have to bike in to get to but the plums are worth the pedaling.

Nice! I wish I knew where that stuff is around here. I'm sure it's gotta be all around me, but I wouldn't know it.
