Red face Yuk! I just cant do it!!

I tired wheatgrass juice again this morning but thought I was going to puke with the first sip! wow, how do you drink this stuff? I do want to drink some every morning because I have read of all the benefits of fresh wheatgrass juice but I just cant get past the smell and taste. I added the juice of half a big apple with it today... plugged my nose and chugged it down. I had to rinse out my mouth and the juicer as fast as I could so I could get rid of the smell asap. LOL

I have harvested my first batch of wheatgrass and I am already growing another but how am I going to get this stuff down?

Thanks for any tips anyone might like to share

WOW - that I can't help you with. I think it's one of those things either you like it or you don't. I love it. Maybe some others will have some advice. But the best way to drink it IS on an empty stomach. Wait a bit before eating.

I wonder about Wheat grass, is it wheat? I'm trying not to eat wheat but I thought about trying it out but if it is wheat I don't want to.

    Hello!

I also had my very first shot of freshly grown wheatgrass this morning! I loved it! Extremely sweet but other than that it was ok....

When I had wheatgrass from a HFS I had it mixed with a fruit juice of apple, raspberry and strawberry and I didn't even taste it!

In Dr. Anne's book she has recipes to mix it up with. Try Carrots, parsley, celery juice w/Wheatgrass and see how that fairs!!

    :)

Wheat grains contain wheat and gluten. Wheatgrass isn't the grain so its fine

KWYM--I don't like it straight either. Blend it with your fave fruit. If you have a Vita-Mix, you can just throw the grass in w/water and fruit and it'll thoroughly blend. And that way you've got the fiber, too.

Here's a couple of answers to your questions: And yes, I sometimes cannot handle the taste of it either. I try to get down as much as I can. And sip very slowly.

Why can’t I use my blender to juice my grass?

Steve Meyerowitz, in “Wheatgrass, Nature’s Finest Medicine” explains it this way…..”The wheatgrass juicer is actually a screw press. Unlike conventional vegetable juicers that tear or cut vegetable fibers into tiny fractions, the grass juicer presses and squeezes the pulp, much like wringing the wetness out of your laundry. Conventional juicers are simply not designed to handle the woody, ligneous fibers of grass and , besides, they operate at such high speeds, sensitive enzymes would oxidize immediately. Regular juicers destroy the nutritional value of grass, but that’s not all……Blenders are also unworkable. The green blades will wrap around the steel blades strangling your blender to death. Even if it survives, the high speed blades aerate and heat up the grass, and don’t make much juice anyway.”
I’ve always used a wheatgrass juicer. Fortunately, now you can buy manual juicers for as low as 40 dollars. When I started juicing, the cheapest juicer was $200. And my brother and sisters would fight over who was going to take it from my parents. They always had one around and it would always wind up missing when one of us visited.

Can I mix it with orange juice?

If the taste isn’t pleasant at first for you, try to sip it, and chase it with a small sip of water. For optimal results, wheatgrass juice should be taken alone, on an empty stomach. Do not eat for at least 20 minutes after drinking. In her book, “The Wheatgrass Book”, Ann Wigmore gives some recipes for wheatgrass juice, mixing it with other green juices or vegetables. If I was using wheatgrass juice for maintenance, then yes, I would, and have, mixed it with my cucumber juice, however, if you are using it for healing, the best is a straight shot.

    How Else to use your
    Wheatgrass Juice For

    • In your bath water(may stain tub)
    • In your neti pot to help cleanse and open sinuses(link to websitehttp://www.healthandyoga.com/html/clean/nasal.html
    • As an enema(three parts water to one part wheatgrass)
    • As an eye wash
    • For earaches
    • In your foot bath
    • Gargle with for a sore throat
    • Apply to swollen or bleeding gums
    • As an implant to reverse damage and draw out impacted fecal matter (it is best to perform an enema before implant)
    • Applied to the skin to soothe sunburned skin, athlete’s foot, rashes, cuts, burns, poison ivy, insect bites, tumors.

It doesn't sound like your body is ready for it. Listen to that appetite! Perhaps you don't have the proper stomach acid to make the most of it. Victoria Boutenko said she didn't like it until she'd been consuming lots of green smoothies for an extended period of time, then it tasted delicious to her. So don't force it. But don't waste it. I recommend........refreshing, rejuvenating wheat grass juice enemas! I know, weird, but you'd probably cop a buzz off of it and cleanse/ heal your colon at the same time

the only way I can drink wheatgrass is if I've been drinking a lot of green juice daily.
I tried some wheatgrass after not drinking green juice regularly and it tasted so awful!

Thank you everyone for the replies! Very informative to say the least. I was afraid I was the only one that cant stomach it Don't worry though I wont waste it! ;)

I have read Steve's book on Wheatgrass and already passed it on to a friend to read or I would have gone back over that part about drinking it. I was trying to drink it slow at first and yes, I did it first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach and didnt try to eat for at least a half hour after. Don't think I could eat right away anyhow after that LOL I am not trying to heal anything with wheatgrass (that I am aware of at least) I just thought it sounded like a good thing to be taking.

I just love green smoothies so maybe I just need more of those for now until like Stina said my body is ready for it. I havent drank any green juices yet so that could be another reason. I much more prefer the green smoothies, yum!

    Thanks again everyone!

I took my first shot of wheatgrass the other week and it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated it. It was very sweet and went down well, but then I got a little sick later..all in all it was a positive experience!

Hey everyone, I was wondering if maybe it was my seed too? I bought it at my local HFS but I have no idea how old it may be. When I asked at the store if it was seed for sprouting wheatgrass, they thought it should work so obviously they don't have a clue. LOL Well I didnt have a problem with it sprouting and growing well but I have read that seed could make a difference but I dont remember if it was a difference in taste or just how well it grew.

Sometimes seed can be the problem. I sell seeds of many varieties. If you'd like to try more when you are done with what you have, contact me personally. I just put a poultice on my tooth this morning. I had a filling replaced and there is so much trauma when that happens. Poultice is the pulp of wheatgrass, dipped in the juice.

chew some grass to get the juice out and then spit out the pulp. Your mouth is like the juicer. Having little bits like this is more tolerable.
