Just Made My First Juice, And...
I'm sipping it as we speak. The manual Healthyjuicer arrived and works as advertised. If I were in a hurry to get out the door, I'd have a problem. This procedure is very slow and labor-intensive. Fortunately, I'm seldom in a hurry these days.
I started with wheatgrass. Strange stuff! Made me feel all "spacey", kind of like a drug or something.
Later on I made concoction of carrot, apple, celery, and spinach. Not bad. I'm probably completely defeating my purpose by using non-organic vegetables, but I couldn't see throwing a lot of money around until I've experimented for a while.
Surprisingly, this drink makes me feel "full", like I've just eaten a big meal. I was worried I'd be going around hungry all the time.
What I'm hoping to embark on is sort of a juice fast. I'd like to drop some weight and detox a bit.
So, here we go!
Wow Brute, thanks for posting that. I just got my healthy juicer the other day and washed it up this morning as my very first batch (is that the correct word? LOL) of wheatgrass is getting close to harvest! yippee! I cant wait to try it, I heard so much about it. How much did you drink of the wheatgrass that made you feel "spacey"? yikes, I sure hope it doesnt do that to me! I have heard it is best to drink on an empty stomach and wait at least a little while before eating but I am sure if that is wrong some of the veteran wheatgrass drinkers will correct me. I just thought that is what I read somewhere. Did you guzzle it right down or sip it? Just curious.
I didnt buy my healthyjuicer for other juices but I may very well try them as well. It would be great if just juice filled me up like your experience.
Thanks again for posting your update!
blue, I made enough grass juice to fill a large shot glass. Not too much because I'd read how strong this stuff is. I found it to be quite drinkable. Not bad at all, although I found that "freshly-mowed lawn" smell rather weird.
I sipped it on an empty stomach first thing this morning. The machine worked well and cleanup was easy. I was surprised at the huge amount of pulp waste this procedure produced. I wonder if that stuff is good for anything. Garden compost, maybe?
Good luck with your juicer!
I have the same manual juice and it is a little mini arm workout. Yes, it does create quite a bit of leftover matter and the only thing it's good for is Halloween dreadlocks - Shrek gone Jamaican mon! Or the compost.
I love wheatgrass and you were right. Drink a LITTLE until your body gets accustomed to it at first, then you can work your way up. Drink on an empty stomach, wait a bit then eat. That way it gets into your body/blood and all over! It's good stuff.
I recommend reading Ann Wigmore's "The Wheatgrass Book" - easy read, but loaded with info!
Thanks brute. I plan on putting the pulp on my compost, most definately! I cant wait to have my own rich compost to put on my gardens.
Lucy, I have Ann's sprouting book but unfortunately the HFS didnt have her wheatgrass book and I ended up buying the sproutman's wheatgrass book. It was informative and I have already passed it on to a friend, maybe a little too soon as I forgot to take note of exactly what height my grass should be when I harvest. LOL But I do plan on getting Ann's book as I have read a couple of her books and they are amazing.
I cant wait to juice my first wheatgrass!!
Brute, did my first wheatgrass this morning and you are correct it was actually very easy to do in the healthyjuicer. I havent tried other juices yet but the wheatgrass was a snap.
That was my first taste of wheatgrass... hmmm, that is different. LOL At first I thought wow! this is really sweet! then the grass taste hit me... wow! thankfully I only had to drink about an ounce. Pretty strong. And thought I might gag if I had to drink more. I hope it gets easier :)
