Default if you wan to lose weight,

do not tell yourself, I am only going to eat fruits and veg. Include the sprouted grains, seeds, and nuts too. I started out avoiding fats, didn't lose any weight, started eating fats everyday and lost weight. But see what works for you. Good luck.

    Default same here

I've been feeling the same thing. I just love to eat nuts and seeds! And I'm going a bit crazy with the Dates too. I know they have more calories than other fruits and veggies, but I cant get enough of them! I am going to try to just have a reasonable amount though, not completely say 'no nuts today'.

I was feeling slightly guilty about nuts too, lirl. Even though I only had some on my salad, I felt like I was eating chocolate, it was so good.
Just because it's RAW does not mean it's HEALTHY.

Ah, nuts are good for ya. I love to eat, and I don't limit myself or tell myself I can only have this or that. When I want something I eat it. When I am hungry for something else I eat that. If I wake up and want to eat nothing but sunflower seeds or almonds for breakfast, then so be it. It's a lot easier to feel like you can make it for the long haul then, at least for me.

We are young and growing and have high metabolisms.
If you crave nuts, then eat them! (thought not if you have a nut allergy )

a year or two back when I was 100% raw I ate about 1cup of nuts or a little bit more a day.

I have a slow metabolism :') but in 2months I still lost around 37pounds which never came back.

The handfull of nuts a day info comes from SAD diets.. on a SAD diet you get your sources of fat from all sorts of places so its not neccessary to eat that many nuts(the diffrence is nuts have the good fats in them!).

also keep in mind many fruits and veggies are low cal, so the nuts keep our calories up. The average person is said to need 2000cal a day. Most likely people who eat raw have a hard time coming up with that much daily, so go ahead and eat nuts.

    Default Nuts about Nuts too.

I am recent to raw foods. There is a transition phase which newbies tend to eat alot of raw nuts and dried fruit. I myself experinced this. Because are bodies are use to having food that sits in are stomach when we go raw even though we are not hungry we feel like we have a weird void in are gut. Sooo we munch munch munch on raw nuts and dried fruit. But with time try to reduce the amount of nuts and dried fruits you buy, and the ones you do instead of eating them like popcorn include them in your meals. Pates, soups, salads etc.. Try when are in a munchy mood making a smoothie and add some greens and maybe some raw hemp or spirulina powder. I live an active life style and sometimes I feel it is important to eat alot of raw nuts and dried fruits.

Y'all shouldn't worry about the fat in the nuts. The whole low fat craze is a load of crock. Fat does not make people fat, it is a myth. Although it is true that fat contains 9 Calories per gram vs 4 in carbs and protein, so eating the same amount of fats as proteins can lead to a higher caloric intake which could send someone over the edge for their BMR.

Fat is the best energy source, more so than carbs. I forget all the science, but fats are more effecient and provide more punch for the same price.

Upping the fats and protein actually make it easier to lose fat while reducing simple carb intake. Combat athletes tend to eat high protein-high fat diets for optimal performance.

When I was SAD and an avid meat eater (1-2lbs a day of meat) I would also eat a lot of nuts and still drop weight. I was on a weight lifting and conditioning program as well.

That being said, one shouldn't really worry about eating too many nuts on a raw food diet. If it still is a bother, include some exercise and you shouldn't have to worry.

I don't now where you are getting you information but, what I have read from most Raw Food Experts is that fat should be limited to 1-2 handfuls of nuts or seeds a day. Most us do eat alot of nuts and seeds when first transitioning but, once, balanced most cut back and eat much more fruits and veggies.

eating a lot of fat will make you fat...

yes that makes sense to me.

if you want to lose weight, you must burn more calories then you consume. that is how you lose weight on any diet.

i also read that it is not ideal to eat over an ounce of nuts a day. that is about a handful. like 10 almonds. a serving maybe about 10 grams of fat? not really sure i don't eat nuts.

it says that in the book written by brigette mars, Rawsome.

also, Dr Graham says that it is ideal to stick to a raw meal plan of 80% carbs, 10% protein, and 10% fats. this will give you most energy. i agree with that.

if you want to calm the cravings, i'd suggest eating more greens. you can do salads or even smoothies to get them down. juicing is also great, or wheatgrass shots. you won't crave so many nuts with more greens.

a lot of fat in the diet is not really ideal. it slows you down, and makes you feel sluggish. it makes you fat, too.

just because someone is raw vegan, it doesn't mean it is the ideal diet. there are plenty of raw vegan people who are overweight, and plenty of raw vegan people who are not healthy.

dr graham says that a high fat raw vegan diet is less healthy then low fat vegan diet.

eating tons and tons of fat is not healthy.

when i first went raw vegan, i ate a lot of nuts for like the first week. i needed this to transition. then after that, every time i stuffed myself on nuts, i found myself feeling sluggish and even ravenous. like i was filling a hole that was not being filled, yet i felt sluggish and full, but not in a fulfilled way. i still binged on nuts though every once in a while. i was not aware of the magic of greens at this point.

the main problem with nuts, in my opinion, is that you don't always know they are fresh. they could come in bins at the health food store, or in packages which are pasturized and not really raw. who knows how long they have been sitting in the bins. also, they are low in water content. for a fatty meal, i would consider an avocado a better choice because chances are it is more fresh (depending on where you are living of course...).

in my opinion, you want to get to an ideal weight, and still have energy to burn, and clear your complexion, load up on greens.
