    Red face Peanut Butter

I'm such a newbie at this, so please bear with me.

My first day raw was yesterday.

    Here's my question:

What is up with peanut butter? How come nobody eats peanut butter? All these posts/recipes refer to almond butter?

Is peanut butter a no-no on a raw food diet?

Is there a way to have your peanut butter and eat it too, yet still be raw?

    Thanks!!!

You're not likely to find raw peanut butter - even the natural stuff at the health food store is cooked. Also, most people don't eat raw peanuts because they have toxic mold? I believe? in them.

Congrads on your first raw day! WOO HOO!
Peanut butter is traditionally made from roasted peanuts - so it is a no, no. A lot of folks have different thoughts on the raw peanuts. Some say to eat them, some say not to. I have never tried to make raw peanut butter. I have eaten raw peanuts in the shell, which btw, is cool when you open it, it has a white, soft lining. They actually taste more bean-like.
    Hope this helps.
    Keep the raw work!!!!

I've tried raw peanuts and don't personally think they taste very good. Remember, they're not really a nut. They're a legume. I don't think raw peanut butter would taste very good either.

I've had raw jungle peanuts and I think they are amazing! I really love them

I also love peanut butter but of course I try to always go for a different nut butter - pretty much every peanut (and all peanut butters) have a mold called alfotoxin (AF) found in them, especially in peanut butter because when the peanuts are going down the conveyor belt people hand pick the best peanuts for jars of nuts and the worst, moldiest ones go into the peanut butter. That's why, when tested, some peanut butters have over 300 times the amount of AF allowed in our food..

AF leads to liver cancer, they did a test on lab rats were some were fed a low-protein diet and a certain amount of AF, and another group was fed a high-protein diet (like most americans eat) and the same amount of AF, and all of the rats in the first group didn't even show signs of liver cancer (showing that a low-protein diet, i.e. vegetarian, is good) and all of the rats in the second group, with the high-protein diets, either got liver cancer or showed signs of it.

My local co-op sells raw valencia peanuts (organic) and really cheap. I miss peanut butter terribly. I bought some and made raw peanut butter in my BlendTec and added salt and some agave. It was pretty tasty!

It does taste different than the roasted kind but it helped with my peanut butter cravings. :)

I make my own.. I take raw peanuts and add something sweet to it and blend.. maybe a date or some agave.. cause raw peanuts are bitter and taste earthy...
