CANDIDA and cleansing
I am reading the Yeast Connection Handbook and am only on day 2 of "starving" the yeast. I am a little conflicted with info. on the net and this book.
For example: in this book carrots, bell peppers, and tomatoes are safe to eat the whole time. BUT I have read on-line that these are not okay to eat for the first few weeks and introduce them slowly later and see how your body reacts.
Eat cautionally is avacado, fennel, puesdeo grains etc. What is cautionally??
I am pretty confused. I know not to eat sugar adn stuff during this time period and introduce them slowly back in after a certain time although I think I might stick to things like berries that don't upset my tummy.
Anybody experienced a candida cleanse and is willing to raise their hand???

I'm trying to figure this out for myself. In the Prescription for Nutritonal Healing book I have (HUGE book with different ailments) it says to avoid, citris, fermented foods, tomatoes, mushrooms, alcohol, cheeses, dairy, um, and I'm sure other things that can contain mold. I've heard melons can have mold. Oh, dried fruits too.

Yeah, it is confusing. And people suffer from it differently. For instance some do the "starving cleanse" as I like to call it to get the body back in control and then they just eat the other things in moderation (such as fruits). Then others deal with it all the time and nothing really works for them.
Dreamwaltwz, how long does your book say to abstain from those foods?? I always stay away from dairy because I am intolerant of dairy products. I have read some people eat fermented foods as a source of probiotics after they start to feel better from the cleanse. I guess add in food slowly and see what does't feel right for your body.

I'm also not so sure of which foods are good, which to avoid...
BUT... I do know that whatever it is that you are going to do, you must stick with it for atleast 2 or 3 months...
I'm not eating any sugar, except low-gly fruits such as berries and stevia extract. Sticking with this regimen, along with TONS of green smoothies, veggies and all that jazz will eventually determine if this is the right thing for my body.
I'm following Gabriel Cousins book....

What do you make in your green smoothies??? I was making green smoothies when I would have such strong adomeon pain I would practically kneel over. I think it was the banana's.
I have his book. I will dig it out. The only complaint is that i heard to beware of fats-even good ones. Like keep it in moderation.
I also know Alissa had candida. I just read it last night in her book.

I found a nice balance doing an anti-yeast diet following a high raw approach. Doing it 100% is certainly possible, just for me as a college student I didn't feel drawn to make that time/financial commitment. I cut out all fruits, except a small portion of berries or 1/2 grapefruit per day (and of course lemons & limes). Then I just ate veggies, green juice, green smoothies, steamed veggies, & some quinoa. I think the key is to eat primarily green juices & salads, to feel nourished without eating tons of fat. I personally believe sugary fruits to be the primary cause of candida, I know from experience too much fat feeds it too.
I'm thinking of cutting out fruits again... I experienced so much positive healing when I did it the first time, and I chose to stop around my birthday and never felt the will power to start up again. I'm starting to feel ready again...
Happy Healing!

It says to cut out these foods for at least a month. Then incorporate one item twice a week to see the response. It could be a long process, but it's better to fix the situation than to keep going.

I'm not sure if it was the banana...? What greens did you put in? Kale and collards are harder to digest than spinach and red and green lettuces... So you might want to include softer greens initially, easier to digest...
I agree with Sunshine too... Its all about upping the greens, whether it be in smoothies, which can be optimal and accelerated for healing purposes, green soups, salads... listen to your body.
I put anything I feel right in the moment for my smoothies...
Lots of berries
usually spinack, kale, red lettuce, mint or fennel or herbs on hand
sometimes avo, sometimes banana (my body seems to still need this)
maca
juice of grapefruit
Hope this helps.
I know Schoolofrawk (Erika) seems to have quite the knowledge about this subject.. She might give her 2Cents on this! ...

I cut out the sweet fruit such as pineapple, grapes, mellons. I found that when I eat or juice pineapple my candida like symptoms come back. My green smoothies are really green. I juice a lot of grapefruit and granny smith apples. I had to stick to this for a few weeks with no cheating. I also cut back on eating bananas to one per day. I am now symptom free!

So it sounds like most of you didn't go through the inital "phase 1- candida cleanse"???? Because I thought you have to kill the yeast and then start slowly adding things back in your diet and see what is okay for you.

Well.... not totally. I did "Phase 1" on and off with the occasional 1/2 of a grapefruit or berries. I found that doing a slightly modified phase one made it more pleasant and easy with my busy schedule. Whatever works for yoU! I'm interested in doing a hard core phase one!

hope this isn't annoying..........
Years ago I read Louise Haye's "little blue book," not sure what the proper title was. It's a book where you check up a disease and the emotional/spiritual/mental root origin of the disease. After having systematic candida for just most of my life, I checked that up and it basically told me I was a great taker.
Well, I didn't like that at all and thought the book was dumb. But then I checked up everyone's disease I knew and could totally see patterns between personality traits and disease.
Do I think a character defect is always to blame for disease? No. I'm thinking endless antibiotics for ear aches growing up and for acne was not helpful either, not to mention all the dairy I consumed (and Pepsi!).
But it's interesting, isn't it? Incidentally, I now do extensive service work and my candida is manageable unless I really feed it.
Also, I believe that something can be caused by an emotional issue that manifests in a physical sympton, but by healing the physical sympton, the healing transfers to the internal landscape and helps dissolve the spiritual problem. That was the case of my always tensing my neck in stress. Acupuncture greatly helped that and the equation worked backwards where I now consider myself much, much less stressed.
So, my friends, please don't feel defensive at the idea. I'm just putting my experience out there as food for thought. Love, Stina
