Also - first compliment on my whitened teeth yesterday. When my Mom asked what I'd been doing, and I tried to explain it to her, she was incredulous, to say the least. But she couldn't deny the change, so it was really cool!
YES, it is the first thing I do in the morning, and I really do feel like it almost centers me and clears my mind. LOL, helps that I have to keep my mouth shut when I'm doing it!! It really is a sacred routine in my life. I've even done it for as much as a couple hours if I have a lot of writing or cleaning to do and am not yet hungry. And my teeth DEFINITELY are cleaner and whiter from doing it! I have even switched to just a bit of baking soda, and my teeth are bright white (were yellowish but not bad before, just enough for me to notice when I looked in the mirror. )

I do feel a centeredness and sense of well-being after oil pulling. I am OP once a day (goal was twice) and notice my teeth are getting whiter. They feel so smooth and clean too.

Theory....
I have been pulling for a couple of days now and decided to check something out yesterday. After swishing 1 Tbsp for 20 minutes, I wanted to see how much volume of liquid there was post-swishing. It was 1 Tbsp. As one is adding saliva as you swish, I would think the volume would increase. However, as people have reported skin enhancements, I am thinking that some of the oil is absorbed. I haven't seen any skin enhancements as of yet, but I eat nuts and seeds a few times a week and think I probably get plenty of oils that way. Maybe those that are seeing the skin benefits aren't getting enough oil in their diet and are getting oil from absorbing through the pulling.....
What do you think?

Hmmm. I'm not saying that's a bad theory, but it's not true my case. I get a variety of plant fats in my diet, and I use 2-4 T. of a truly cold pressed olive oil in salad dressing almost every day.
Since I'm drinking 24-32 oz of water after OP, I've been wondering if my skin is benefiting from the increase in water consumption, too.
I should note that I have not been blemish free since my last post. I had to travel and didn't get to OP for 3 days. I broke out in several spots on one side of my face. Stress could be a factor, too. Overall, I'm still convinced it has helped reduce break-outs and improve the texture of my skin.

Thanks for the feedback RK! Did you have cracked skin?
Also, I read that you found cold pressed Sunflower Oil. What brand is that and where did you find it?

I just found that a book was published about this a couple of months ago by Bruce Fife-

TaupeRawMan -Thanks for the book title.

No cracks right now. I have had in the past, especially on feet, fingers, and lips. I use shea butter for that. My skin couldn't crack if it wanted to, I use Face Potion #19 from Bella di Terra, twice a day, and every night I slather on lotion or body butter from the same company.
My favorite brand of oils is Rapunzel. PCC Grocer is the only place I've seen them. They are organic, cold pressed, unrefined. Bottled in France. Distributed by Organic Brands, LLC.

I've noticed everytime I OP I get small cracks in each corner of my mouth. When I missed two days they went away. As soon as I resumed the OP they came back. They are not a big deal, but I'd like to know if this happens to anyone else. It's an odd detox symptom I suppose.
Raw Knitster, I use Rapunzle too, sesame.

i'm so glad i saw this post today, because it reminded me that i've wanted to try this out. i oil pulled twice today, once this morning and one just now. i used olive oil. my teeth are seriously a few SHADES whiter... also patches of dry skin i've had on my face for a couple weeks are clearing up and my skin is softer. can't wait to see how i'm doing in a week or two. :)
-
I also tried this for the first time today. In the am I did not want to use my good expensive oil so I used my raw coconut oil. In the afternoon I went to the store and bought sesame oil. I got a headache after each time but my mouth felt so wonderfully clean so I will keep trying. I wonder if this will help with tooth sensitivity as well??

My last post on this thread was 6 weeks ago. I've been oil pulling faithfully every morning for over 2 months. I've skipped very few days. It feels odd not to do it every day. My teeth are not noticably whiter, but they never were white. I'm going to try a bottle of sesame seed oil to see if I notice any whitening with that. What I have noticed is that a small filling on a front tooth is no longer flush with the tooth. The tooth enamel around it is obviously thicker. I've also tried several new toothpastes since my last post, PerioBrite, Uncle Harry's, and more. I finally found one I like, CoralWhite, and have been using it almost exclusively for a month. It has no fluroide, SLS, or glycerin.
I went to the dentist for a cleaning this week. For the first time ever there was NO bleeding of the gums, not even around the teeth with the deepest pockets. The hygenist was amazed. She wanted to know where I found my new toothpaste.
You know that "Hmmmm" sound some people make when they are pleasantly surprised and wondering about something they see or hear that is out of the ordinairy? The hygenist made that sound several times during my cleaning. Then the dentist made the same sound when he read the hygenist's chart notes, and again when he examined my teeth. I think they were more amazed than they cared to admit.
I didn't tell them about the oil pulling. Call me chicken. If things are still looking better at my next cleaning, I will tell them my secret.
-
RawKnitster! I'm OPing now... Chicken! LOL -- I hope you tell them next time! Of course, they're probably not going to tell people about it anyways. Sigh. That's the way it usually works in my experience. They still have their schooling ingrained deep down...
But that is GREAT!

I opened the bottle of sesame seed oil and tried it this morning. It was a nice change from the sunflower seed oil. It says to refrigherate after opening, but that makes it thicken. I'd have to leave my morning dose out the night before, which would be a nuisance. I'm wondering how important it is to keep the bottle in the fridge.
If your using sesame seed oil.......How do you store it?
