If your using sesame seed oil.......How do you store it?
I've only used sesame, and I leave it out at room temp. I have not had any problems with freshness that I can tell. :)

I have been using seasame oil twice a day- have not really noticed a great difference in whiteness yet but do notice a huge difference in my gums. When I used to floss before I would have slight bleeding - I have been pulling since just before Thanksgiving and there is no more bleeding when I floss!

SOOOO glad I found this post on the same day I discovered the miracle that is oil pulling!
Picked up some cold-pressed sesame oil and olive oil soap from the health food store and did my fist OP this morning. (Who knew you could brush your teeth with SOAP?? :)

It's 4.30 and I just finished my second one for today. And WOW!
I totally know what you guys mean about the whitening effect.

OP is nowhere near as nasty as people are afraid it will be. I actually find the taste quite nice, but then I'm on day 5 of my cleanse and any non-lemonade taste is a welcome change

Looking forward to the look on my boyfriend's face when he sees the big bastard block of soap next to the bathroom sink and I'll have to tell him "Don't wash your hands with that, it's for my teeth!" LOL

Is anyone else using olive oil toothpaste after they pull?

Same here. Major improvement of bleeding gums, but NO whitening.

The enamel appeared to be thickening, but after a couple months of daily OP it became very noticable that my teeth were turning the color of the oil. I have several crowns so it's easy to see any change in my natural tooth color. The only reason I can figure is my teeth must be softer or more porous than normal.

I've switched to sesame oil, instead of sunflower, and cut back on the OP. Only doing it once or twice a week now.
I'm working on strengthening my teeth from the inside out. Lots of green food and almond milk!

Default Just ticked off my dentist . . .

I went in for my check-up today. It's been a year since I've gone in (lots of health drama stretching throughout family and friends), and the dentist wanted to repair two cavities in an area between two molars. I had fabulous teeth until my asthma kicked in again with a major vengeance, and the Prednisone and inhalers took their toll. Ugh. Anyway, I just started oil pulling a few days ago and told my dentist that I was not going to come in any time soon to have the "repair" made -- I'd wait until the end of the semester. This is someone I've known for decades. He was none too pleased and became very abrupt. I told the hygienist (whom I adore) about oil pulling, and she said that enamel couldn't heal itself. Now wait just a sec -- these are the same two spots that were mentioned a year ago and they have barely deteriorated without raw food -- can't wait to see what happens when the green smoothies seriously kick in! Anyway, I'm NOT going to do anything until May, and I fully expect my return visit to bear witness to the cavities filling in naturally. It was just a frustrating experience.

    Default Oil Pulling Music!

    Hi There!

    I found this very interesting....

As I was reading this thread while swishing the oil in my mouth and through my teeth, someone said it was as if the oil were making music in their mouth!

    This was SO my experience!

But what was even stranger than the music, is the fact that it just STOPPED at around twenty minutes!! All of the sudden it was GONE!!!

This is the first time I have used sunflower oil, and I really liked it! It was white unlike the other times I have tried, and my teeth too seemed just a hair whiter at the end.

More music in my mouth tomorrow morning!

Thanks for your encouragement, TaupeRawMan! May OP do wonders for you! :)

Good luck, SwishTN! It *is* musical!

    Cherrypie, check out this link:

    http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/oil_pulling.html

It was very helpful to me. Another recommended site is www.oilpulling.com. Basically, OP is a way for your body to detoxify through drawing out the toxins via the mixing of oil (sunflower, sesame, coconut, and so on -- most people use the "good stuff," such as organic or extra virgin) and saliva. It is recommended only on an empty stomach -- another site gave an example of someone vomiting quite violently when she OP'd immediately after a meal. An individual "swishes" for fifteen to twenty minutes and then spits out the saliva/oil (seeing as it contains toxins, it's very important not to swallow the mixture). If the oil is white, having been thinned out by the saliva, it's considered a good OP session. The mouth is then rinsed and, if using a sink as a receptacle, the sink is then washed. (Some people brush their teeth, some rinse with salt water, some rinse with tap water . . . I think it can be personalized a bit.)

I've been practicing OP for three times a day for a whopping four days and my teeth are already whiter and I've been experiencing some nasty knee pains. The latter is important because it's an old injury (when I overshot a safe amount of weights to lift), and either transitioning into raw foods or OP or both has brought it up again. This is a sign of healing, rather than injury *from* the OP. To be honest, many people are deeming the practice a miracle. I'm hoping it's just that!

    Question Question about oil pulling
Under your tongue is one of the best places to absorb vit+min.. wouldn't you been absorbing this oil into your body? Won't you be absorbing the oil and then the toxins that the oil is pulling out?
Why not just swish around a little water and chlorella in your mouth?

Swishing right now. This is my 2nd time in two days. Yesterday I tried sesame oil, though I currently have coconut oil in my mouth. I didn't feel much of anything with yesterday's oil pull, plus I didn't enjoy the texture/taste. It is a little more bearable with the coconut oil. I'll keep it up for a bit...

    Good thread.

No more than you would be absorbing the toxins through a bowel movement. It has to be somewhere before it leaves the body. I do often feel a mini detox with OPing, but I feel fantastic soon after. If I OP every day and stay 100% raw, I do not feel much of anything but keep OPing because it helps to maintain my level of health.

    Does that help?
