We're going to NYC this weekend - any raw suggestions?
My husband is taking me to New York just for a romantic weekend this coming Saturday. I'm SO excited. We already have reservations at Pure Food and Wine for Sunday evening, but I would LOVE more suggestions for places to go for either dining, or simple market shopping for meals.
I've done the theatre thing already, and we really don't have time for that anyway. I just want to do fun things and spend time with him.
Thanks guys!
Anna
Oh, we'll be staying in Manhattan, by the way... in case that matters.

On my last visit I hit Pure Food and Wine (they also have a casual place around the corner), Quintessence and Bonobos. I think I liked Quintessence the best. Have so much fun Maraw!! BTW, I just made your chococlate pudding/mousse the other night for the first time and loved it. :)

Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It's one of our favorites too. :)
Bonobo's is one of our magazine distributors - I should go there. Thanks for the reminder! What type of food do they have? I mean, I know it's raw, but what style....?
Thanks again.

Enjoy!
Yay, your romantic week-end sounds amazing!! Enjoy!!
The last time I went to Bonobo's it was very casual style. It's a counter type of place and you can pick what you want from different dishes. You get a plate and a tray and you can sit down at any table. The food is inexpensive as far as raw places go. They have salads, pates, soups, ice creams, fudgeballs and other yummy raw things. It's a low key place in front of a really beautiful park!! :)
Again, enjoy! Also if you want to buy some prepared raw goodies or some raw fruit/veggie juices you can go to Westerly Market, it's on 8th avenue and 54th or 57th.. not sure anymore. Do a search for "Westerly market" on google. ;)
I miss New York sometimes. ;)

After you tire of restaurants and you find yourself walking around the village looking for a (relatively) inexpensive lunch or a quick bite, head over to LifeThyme Natural Market. They're all organic and they make a lot of raw prepared foods - things like raw lasagna, raw burgers, raw chocolate brownies, raw puddings, raw cheesecake, raw coconut pudding, raw "berry bomb", etc. They also have incredible vegan stuff that is not raw - vegan burriotes, vegan pizza, vegan tiramisu, etc.
They also have raw packaged snacks, a salad bar, a juice & smoothie bar, vitamins and personal care products, and reasonably-priced local produce. Spend your money here instead of Whole Foods!
There is seating upstairs where you can eat, OR you can walk to nearby Washington Square park and sit on a bench. I love this place - the people there are really nice! But keep in mind their selection varies quite a bit - sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not so good. But it's worth checking out nonetheless.
Have a great time!

I got excited when I came across The Plant. But I'm told it has been closed for a while now.

It was wonderful! Truly. The two raw places we went were Bonobo's and Pure Food and Wine. The later was the highlight of our trip, but lunch at Bonobo's was great too. We found that we didn't really need to seek raw food out. Almost on every corner there is some shop or deli selling "make your own" chopped salads. It was great! We did go to Union Square, but the market on Madison was the best! It was so much fun. We didn't make it in time for the market on Union.
We had such a wonderful weekend - I can't wait to go back!! Thanks for the help and guidance everyone.

When I was in college, I practically lived at LifeThyme. I miss that place sooooo much!!!!! Oh man, now I need to get myself into the city ASAP. :)
