Hi everyone. I am new to the raw lifestyle. it has been 3 days now. so far so good. I am 48, I have 4 children 17, 15, 13, and my baby is 9. I was an RN and after I got all of my children to school age I decided to teach so now I am a first grade teacher and I am working on my Masters degree. I am 5'3" and I weigh 200 pounds and feel miserable. I have high choleserol and suffer from acid reflux disease. I have acutally done a lot of reading about the raw lifestyle and have studied Rvd. Malkmus - he healed himself from colon cancer. He recommends a lot of juicing which honestly, I just do not have time to do and it is expensive. After I saw Alissa's DVD I felt like giving raw another try. Anyway. any advice or suggestions to keep on the path would be greatly appreciated. And i am sure like many of you out there, although health is a priority, so is economy - i do not have a lot of extra money to spend. Thanks. wjackie

    Welcome to raw!

I have a Vita-Mix, not a juicer. Before I got it, I mashed frozen fruit with a potato masher. The VM doesn't take much time; I just put some fruit in it and turn it on and make a smoothie. What takes a long time is chopping tomatoes for pico de gallo, which is what I've been eating a lot of lately.

    Hi and welcome wjackie,

I second the smoothies in the Vita-mix. I don't have a juicer either and the Vita- mix takes two seconds! You get so many nutrition benifits plus the fiber so I feel fuller longer.

    Enjoy!

    Welcome!
Yes, I agree (of course I would - being the green smoothie lover I am), but do yourself a HUGE favor and include green smoothies in your raw diet. THEY do the trick - stop cravings, and fill one up!!! Do you have Alissa's book and DVD? Powerful tools to help you in this journey.
    Also, check out vwinters blog!
