    Default Raw in Virginia homeschooling kids...

    Hey everyone, Living raw in Virginia .I've been almost completely raw now for about 7 months now. Don't know exactly, it has been a slow transition over a year or more. I am a mom to 3 kids (7,13,14yrs) who I am trying to set an example for. I do not see them eating all raw foods yet but I hope they will put more of it into their lives and understand it as a path back to health and much more. Their father is a total meat and potatoes guy who never picks up a piece of fruit or a vegtable except for the tomato and lettuce on his sandwhich.We homeschool and are involved in dance,martial arts, and yoga.My daughter and I enjoy art and playing in the kitchen with recipes as well. It is really hard for my children to resist the constant pressure from friends,family, and the outside world. It is more then they can handle. So, I tell them not to deprive themselves of those foods that are not raw which they enjoy but to instead focus on putting more and more raw food choices in their diet each day. Maybe the raw foods will slowly replace cooked foods more and more. When they are ready ,if ever ,to become raw the transition may not be so hard. They won't feel as though they are being deprived of anything. I realize that the ideal way is to start them on raw foods from the very beginning. A little too late for that now. This is the best way I can think of to handle things now. Any suggestions or advice is great. I have hopes of becoming a raw foods coach/chef. I completed an online program but have not began working outside my immediate family. I think they are probably the toughest clients I would ever have. Great practice! I really hope to find some input, ideas, good converstation here and maybe a few raw friends.

    Hi, Rawbyn~
    {Is that the way your name's spelled on your birth certificate?*grin*}

    I also homeschool, & wish I had been raw from the start of my daughter's life! (Not to mention my own!)

    What's the online program you completed?

    One thing that helps my daughter a lot is to send her out to events, friend's houses, etc., with containers of some raw food. (I got some great ones with little round ice packs in the lids from Avon!)

    Turns out her friends want what she has (I send her the YUMMIEST stuff we have, berries, kiwi's etc.) & I send enough to share (if I can afford it, or I'll buy non-organic just for the planned event) so she can be a good example...

    ...then I remind her that part of the example is resisting the JUNK food they're eating...& that if she does good, when she gets home, we'll make a raw treat...
    ...(I'm letting her plan that, pick out the recipe & when we'll make it) & it's helping a LOT!
    Looking forward to getting to know you...
    ...& remember that friends don't have to be face to face!

    Hi Anastazia-
    Great meeting you. How old is your daughter? Maybe we can exchange some recipes that are appealing to them and get some fresh ideas.
    The online program I did was just a certificate program from The Raw Vegan Network. It is all I could find to do from home to work towards becoming a raw foods coach/chef. They give good information and will help you put up a web page as well as list you on their web page.Kind of expensive though. I have been trying to put together a web page on my own. It is a little more difficult then I thought. I love the designing part but the writing has been a bit of a challenge. I'll post the site's address on here once I have gotten a bit further with it. I'd love some feedback on it. -Rawbyn

    Rawbyn - Welcome! I eat raw, my kids eat raw, now, they didn't when I first started. And dh came around to eat raw as much as humanly possible without making it to where he's 100%. We also have 3 kids, (11,10, and 7) and homeschool them all. There are threads in the raising raw kids section of the forum that you may find helpful! I and a couple of other people have started threads about transitioning our kids to 100%. HTH! And again, Welcome!

    Welcome to RFT. Congrats on 7 months. I also like your philosophy with your kids as to not changing them overnight but getting them to include more raw foods into their diet. This is what I am also trying to do. Anyway welcome and best wishes to you!
