Default Is this a cheap alternative for a nut milk bag?

So I bought 6 knee-high type hoisery things (3 pair) for 4 bucks. I was thinking of using them as nut milk bags (after I wash them really well, of course). I was thinking of that inevitable occasion that I don't have time to wash it out for a day or so and have to come back to a yucky mess--I could just throw it out. What do you think? Any one try this before? How did it work?

OMG I was thinking the SAME EXACT THING TODAY!

I have some 100% nylon tights, and I was thinking I would double layer them, stitch them together and add some drawstring.

    Hmmm

I don't think that panyhose are healthy at all because of the way that they are processed (the chemicals)...I hate when I have to wear them; I grew up in a church where it was mandatory and it was "unlady-like" to have bare legs. I know the chemicals used in the processing of them make them unhealthy in my opinion and some research. Another thing I think is interesting is that everyone I know who has been diagnosed with cancer has always been told to stop wearing nylons.....so I wouldn't use them for milk...that my 2 cents

    Second that.

I also have a very fine mesh strainer (purchased from Williams Sonoma). It was about $15, but its a lifetime item.

    lavendarJ,

Okay your post cracked me up big time. I too went to a church when I younger that you had to dress up for and it was a big no no to wear pants. One time I wore dress pants and everyone was aghast like I'd committed a sin. I have always to this day hated nylons, they bug me because they just feel horrible. I keep hoping someone will invent some that are comfy but I just avoid them at all costs.

I use the cheap paint strainer bags from Home Depot. It works great and all my tight budget could handle. Cheesecloth is another good alternative as Firicia mentioned but I couldn't believe how hard it was to find when I was looking for it. Once I bought the paint strainer bag I found cheesecloth everywhere. Doh!

Default EVEN CHEAPER OPTION don't strain

    I'm so confused....

Why does everyoen strain thei milk????

I drink mine pulp and all, figure I need the pulp and I'm not always ready to turn on ZEUS (my dehydrator) just to dry the pulp to store as nut flour.

In a smoothies or even over granola cereal nut pulp seems to be unnoticeable, RIGHT?!?!?!?

It is, therefore, evident that it is possible to cure by foods, aliments and fruits; but as today the science of medicine is imperfect, this fact is not yet fully grasped. When the science of medicine reaches perfection, treatment will be given by foods, aliments, fragrant fruits and vegetables, and by various waters, hot and cold in temperature.

I use my mesh strainer and then a second pass using a coffee filter. It lets me squeeze out the liquid leaving moist pulp which is perfect for my raw cinnamon buns.

I strain mine because I like to put it in Chai tea or eat it with granola. Its not "milky" to me if its thick and gritty. Yuck.

My DP is just coming off years of drinking horrible soy milk in this coffee and tea daily so this is a good way for him to stay off soy. Needless to say, we make and drink a lot of it.

Ill put the unstrained nut milk in fruit smoothies though to give it some body.
